From the Principal

I was lucky enough to stop by the 3/4 Camp, last week, and it was great to see so many happy smiling faces. There were a number of highlights to quickly talk about, including disco bowling, exploring Sovereign Hill and visiting the art gallery. Thank you to Miss Mawby, Mrs Jacobs, Miss Stephan, Mr Reid and Jaeben for making this camp so enjoyable for our students.

This Friday is National Teachers Day. I would like to take this opportunity to show my gratitude and say thank you to all the staff at Beaufort Primary School, including teachers, education support staff and office staff. I am blessed to have such a wonderful team to work alongside and lead.

Last week, we took 16 students to take part in the interschool golf tournament. This was a great opportunity for these students, including some first-time players. Congratulations to the students who have progressed to the next level. Thank you to David and Tamara for also supporting our students on the day.

The Beaufort Show is coming up quickly. Parents and Friends will once again be running the BBQ. We will be looking for volunteers to assist throughout the day. Please keep an eye out on XUNO for volunteer information.

Social Media Information

As a school, it is important for us to foster and educate our students around cyber safety and the appropriate way to use different social media platforms. We are aware that the use of these platforms and the access the students have outside of school hours is beyond our control, however, it is still important that our students know the information. That is why it is part of our Respectful Relationships and Life Education curriculum.

Part of this education is around the age restrictions of these platforms and obtaining parent consent if signing up.

These are just some of the platforms and their age restrictions.

Discord is another platform that some of our students are discussing, and the age restriction for this is 13+. This platform has raised some red flags for me, so it is definitely worth looking further into it if your child is using, or wanting to use, this platform.

We have had many discussions around the "BLOCK" button being your best friend and the "REPORT" button as well.  Additionally, we have spoken about not friending people our students have never physically met.

As I have said a number of times to our students, they are growing up in a world where social media can be a great tool, but it can also be the worst. They all have their pros and cons, and our students need to have honest conversations with their parents before signing up.

It would be great if parents could continue to have these conversations with their child/ren, as they are growing up in an ever-changing world that is heavily influenced by social media and online platforms.
