Dear Parents/Carers,
We were very lucky to gain access to the new playground last week which already looks impressive.
We are reliably informed that this build is on track, and we should be ready to open at the beginning of Term 1 2024!
We have seen an increase in different carers collecting students this term. Just a reminder of the process we have.
We are currently exploring the option to run an OSH Club at Melton SS. I will update you in due course as this process progresses.
Bunji has settled back into his role beautifully and seems to have matured a little since his return. He continues to provide exactly what’s needed instinctively. To watch the students and Bunji interact really is a joy!
Our new weekly ‘Community Connection’ discussions will be held online every Tuesday for the rest of this year at 11.00 a.m. The idea of these sessions is for our Families/Carers to come along connect with our Leaders, Allied Health or at times External Services. They are informal sessions and a great opportunity to ask some questions and connect with us on a regular basis. We will remind everyone each week and what the agenda is for that week.
Our first Prep transition occurred on the Tuesday the 31st of October. We had some very excited and nervous families attend our first transition. The session was very successful and a nice chance to meet and greet our new families into the MSS community. Our next session is Tuesday the 14th of November at 10am.
This term we are compiling staffing and class groups. Staff will be indicating what has been successful and challenging in the combinations of students and we will be asking students for their feedback also.
The final Curriculum Day this term will be an SSG meeting where you will be able to meet the new staff for classes next year.
Please save the date!

Thank you so much Melton SS! We raised $495 for the Daniel Morcombe Foundation on our Day for Daniel, beating last year’s total. Woo Hoo!
Thank you to all who donated!
Please find below a guide to staying cyber safe.
Please know that while your young people are at school, we have in place policies and procedures to ensure their safety, unfortunately this does not extend to after school. If you have concerns please reach out to the police and eSafety resources, who are equipped to support you and your family.
Key takeaways
1. Approach conversations about the online world as an opportunity to talk to your young person rather lecture, showing genuine interest in your child's activities and asking open- ended questions.
2. Equip yourself with knowledge about social media sites and the ones your young person is using and familiarise yourself with resources for handling online issues, such as blocking and reporting content.
3. Choose the right timing and communication style for serious discussions, consider alternative settings or start the conversation through text or messages.
4. Address topics such as friendships, appropriate content sharing, critical thinking, and digital reputation to prevent issues and create awareness.
5. Discuss the risks of being scammed and given unreliable information, and promote strategies for respectful online posting to leave a positive digital footprint.
Kind regards,
Brooke
