Music News

Hello there Park Ridge Families,
Welcome back to another exciting year of fun and learning in the Music Room. We can’t wait to get the students all settled in and engaged with their learning.
Similarly to last year, our Year 5 and 6 students will be learning the basics of the acoustic guitar, however, unlike last year they will be focusing on chords and chord progressions rather than melodies. The Year 3 and 4 students will be learning to play the ukulele and like the senior students, they will also focus on playing chords and chord progressions instead of basic melodies. Once the Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 students can competently play enough chords, they can begin to learn songs using the skills they have developed on ukulele and guitar. Our Year 1 and 2 students will be revising and developing their knowledge of the fundamental musical concepts of beat, rhythm, tempo and dynamics using a variety of percussion instruments to practise and play several rhythmic ostinatos and online exercises. Once our fabulous Foundation students settle into their routines, they’ll be exploring several musical concepts using their voice, body and a variety of percussion instruments.
The Senior Choir and Junior Choirs will be starting up in the first few weeks (with the Junior Choir starting a bit later in the term) and we’re looking forward to them performing at assemblies throughout the year.
Stay tuned for more Music & Performing Arts news updates throughout the year.
Thanks,
Graeme Stewart
