Assistant Principal Message

From the Assistant Principal

Dear Parents and Carers,

A warm welcome to all our community, to the 2026 new school year! A special welcome to all of our new families and all new staff members. We look forward to seeing all that we can accomplish together throughout 2026.

Important School Guidelines

EMAILS

  • All emails to the school, including those for teachers, MUST be sent to the school’s admin email address, info@olssmiranda.catholic.edu.au. These emails will be read and  forwarded to relevant staff members and responded to as soon as possible.

MOBILE PHONES

At the commencement of the school day:

  1. Students will surrender their mobile device to the school office and sign the register.
  2. The device will be placed in a secure container with other student devices and kept at the office for the day.
  3. At the end of the day, students will collect their device from the school office prior to leaving the school grounds.

Don't forget - students are not allowed to use mobile devices on site. If you need to make changes to afternoon pick up arrangements, please contact the office, rather than directly through your child.

As we welcome new families to our school it is timely to review our afternoon dismissal procedures.

Car Line at Clubb Crescent and Kiora Road

The majority of our students are collected in the afternoon by one of our car line options. Children will be walked to their correct area by a teacher and below is a copy of the Management Plan that was created for our school by Sutherland Shire Council. Please take a moment to familiarise yourself with this document.

All students need to be able to independently enter the vehicle and place their seatbelt on without assistance as cars cannot stop on the turning circle and all persons must remain in the car, with the engine always running. If your child is attending turning circle, please have a A4 sign with your child’s first name and last name or class clearly shown in your vehicle as you enter so the teacher on the microphone can call for your child.

Walkers

Students who have permission from their parents to walk from the school grounds will meet a teacher at the front gate.

Please have a look at this website that provides some great learning activities to support the teaching of road safety. This is particularly important for all of our students.

Afterschool Care

Students in Years 1-6 attending After School Care (SCECS) will be collected from the shade sail next to the library. Kindergarten students will be collected from their classroom for the year.

If you need to access these services you must be fully enrolled in order to be able to attend. Please note that most days for this service are at capacity so if you are looking for a casual day this must be requested in advance.

Bus

Please note that dedicated school bus services operate on the school term dates of the NSW Department of Education, including staff development days at the start and end of each term. There have been some changes to some school bus services introduced across Sydney from Day 1 of Term 1, 2026 to improve reliability, coverage and alignment with school and community needs.

Hold Steady Counselling is running a skatepark-based therapy program in the Shire called “Ride It Out”, which will be running for six weeks during Term 1. Ride it Out uses cognitive behaviour therapy, play therapy and experiential learning to educate and provide strategies to both parents and kids for either ADHD learning and coaching or emotional regulation.

The program is designed for children aged 8–12 and focuses on building focus and attention, emotional regulation, resilience, and confidence through strengths based learnings. Each week combines practical skills with therapeutic activities to help children better understand and manage their emotions in a fun and engaging way. Please see the below flyer for more information.
