Principals' Message

Welcome Back to St Michael’s
Welcome back to all our students, families and staff, and a very special welcome to those joining the St Michael’s community for the first time. I hope the holiday break offered you time to rest, laugh and enjoy precious moments with family and friends.
The start of a new school year is always full of excitement and possibility, along with a few butterflies—and that’s completely normal! Each year is a fresh invitation to grow, to try new things and to deepen our relationships with one another. At St Michael’s, we believe that light and goodness always dwell in the heart, and that every child is known, cherished and called to be their very best.
Guided by our Catholic faith and the Mercy values as espoused by Catherine McAuley, we are a community grounded in compassion, respect and service. Our school is a place where every child is known, valued and encouraged to be their very best. Learning here is not just about knowledge and skills, but about forming kind hearts, curious minds and a strong sense of purpose. Together, we give witness to Christ through our words, actions and the way we care for one another each day.
I thank our dedicated staff for their commitment and generosity, our families for your ongoing trust and partnership, and our students for the joy, curiosity and life you bring to our school. I look forward to all that this year will hold—new learning, shared celebrations and many moments of grace.
May God bless our year ahead and may St Michael watch over our community as we journey together.
Welcome back to St Michael’s, it is truly good to be together again
Condelences
We pass on our prayers and thoughts to Anne Draper, our Literacy Intervention Specialist, on the passing of her sister, Kate Draper. Kate passed away in January after a long battle with cancer.
May perpetual light shine upon her, may she rest in peace.
Congratulations
Congratulations to our Year 1/2 teacher, Georgia Foley, on her recent engagement to Daniel Sutton. We wish Georgia and Daniel every happiness as they begin this exciting new chapter together.
If you have any family news throughout the year that you would like to share with our community, please contact Samantha Beg in our school office.
Principal News
As shared with families last year, 2026 is my final year of Principalship. As I prepare for retirement, I have reduced my working days to three days per week, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. On Monday and Tuesday, our Deputy Principal, Angela Flint, will step into the role of Acting Principal.
I look forward to continuing to work closely with Angela, whose leadership, experience, and deep knowledge of our community ensure strong continuity and care for our school. This shared leadership arrangement allows us to maintain the high standards, clear communication, and strong relationships that are so important to St Michael’s.
I am grateful for the support and trust of our families and staff during this transition and look forward to walking alongside our community throughout this final year, celebrating our achievements, nurturing our students, and continuing to serve St Michael’s with commitment and joy.
Welcome to the 2026 Prep Children and Families
We were delighted to welcome our Prep children and families to St Michael’s this week. They have had two fabulous days getting to know their educators and each other. We are excited to walk alongside our newest learners as they grow in confidence, faith, and friendship.
Return to School.
Prep - Year 6 children return to normal classes on Monday, 2nd February. Children must arrive by 8.45am ready to line up for our Monday morning assembly. Families are more than welcome to join us for this assembly. Our school day ends at 3.25pm, and a teacher remains on duty until 3.40pm; please ensure your children are collected by 3.40pm, or they will need to attend the after-school care program.
When parking around the school, I ask that you please be mindful, patient, and courteous with each other, and I encourage families who can walk to school or park a block or two away to do so.
At no time can families park or stop on or near the School Crossing. We are all responsible for keeping our children safe near the roads around our school.
School Uniform
All children are expected to wear their full school uniform on Monday, including black school shoes and school hats.
Our Uniform Shop will be open on Tuesday, 3rd February from 2.30pm if you require any school uniform items.
