Grade 5
As we approach the end of Term 3, we are excited to share some highlights from the learning in Grade 5.
Over the past four weeks, students have enjoyed exploring engaging texts such as:
With the theme of Life Cycles running through these texts, students have been practising expressive reading using tone, volume, pitch, and pace to bring stories to life. They have also examined how authors emphasise key ideas, built their vocabulary through new spelling patterns, and experimented with figurative language to inspire their own writing.
In Writing, students have been developing persuasive texts, making use of emotive language, rhetorical questions, and strong sentence starters. They have also worked in teams to practise debating skills and explored a range of poetry styles to enhance creativity and self-expression.
In Mathematics, students have focused on area, perimeter, and capacity. They applied their learning through project-based tasks, using problem-solving strategies to tackle real-world challenges.
During Inquiry, students investigated economics, learning about natural, human, and capital resources. They then applied this knowledge to design posters that marketed a product, combining creative thinking with practical skills.
In SEL, students have reflected on themes such as trust, gratitude, and gender, deepening their understanding of positive relationships and personal wellbeing.
