This term, students across all year levels have been exploring typography and the creative use of text, pattern, and design. Each student created an individual tile, alongside contributions from staff, to form a collaborative outdoor installation. This artwork will be permanently displayed on the front-facing wall at the north end of the Prep building. The project celebrates creativity, unity, and the power of words, with the installation scheduled for completion in early Term 4.
Prep students have been exploring the exciting world of typography through bold block colours and simple design creation. Each child designed their own tile, contributing to a whole-school outdoor installation. This installation will be displayed on the front wall of the Prep building, becoming a permanent feature of our school grounds.
In Grades 1 and 2, students have been developing their skills by creating patterns and combining words within their artwork. Inspired by artists such as Barbara Kruger, they are learning how words can become a powerful part of visual art. Each student will design an individual tile that will form part of a whole-school installation to be completed early in Term 4.
Grades 3 and 4 have been exploring how text and pictures can work together in creative and meaningful ways. Drawing inspiration from typographic illustrators like Lex Wilson, students are learning to blend imagery and lettering into their designs. Their completed tiles will join the school-wide installation, celebrating creativity and collaboration across all year levels.
Students in Grades 5 and 6 have been investigating the power of fonts, lettering, and design to capture attention and create impact. Inspired by artists such as Ebon Heath, they have been experimenting with word-based art that sparks engagement and meaning. Each student’s tile will contribute to the whole-school installation, showcasing the skills they’ve built throughout the typography unit.
