Student Wellbeing

Year 5/6 Spotlight
In Term 3, in the Year 5/6 community, our wellbeing learning was centred around R U OK? day and the importance of checking in with others. Students explored why it is important to ask this question, how to be a good listener, and the different steps involved in having an R U OK? conversation. They also had the chance to reflect on what this might look like in their own friendships and how they could use these skills to support others.
As part of this learning, students took part in a Step to the Line activity to reflect on their own listening habits. When different statements about listening were read out, students stepped forward if the statement was true for them. This gave them the opportunity to reflect on their own listening skills and understand when listening can be more challenging for them.
Together, students discussed how it feels when someone isn’t really listening and why listening is so important - particulrly if asking a friend, “Are you OK?”. Students showed maturity and thoughtfulness during this activity and were able to make strong connections to their own friendships.
We concluded our learning by creating a Friendship Circle, where students reflected on the things they can control in their friendships and the things they cannot control. Students proudly shared their reflections and demonstrated a deeper understanding of how to build and maintain positive, supportive relationships.
R U OK? Day - REMINDER
On Thursday, 11th September, we are asking our children to come to school wearing a “splash of yellow” with their uniform of the day. A “splash of yellow” for R U OK? Day could be something simple and fun, such as:
A yellow hair ribbon or scrunchie
A yellow wristband or badge
Yellow socks or shoelaces
A yellow hat, cap or scarf
A splash of yellow is a meaningful way for our school community to come together, raise awareness, and encourage the simple but powerful question, ‘R U OK?
The art below is by Jack Balart (3/4K). We thank Jack for sharing his talents and illustrating our school R U OK? poster. Well done Jack, you have certainly captured the message and the four steps to asking R U OK?
