Our Lady's Birthday

Each year the Catholic Church celebrates Our Lady's birthday on 8th September.

The Bible doesn’t say anything about Mary’s birth, but we know that she was born to her parents, Joachim and Ann.

Joachim and Ann loved God very much, and they were filled with gratitude to God for the gift of a child. They raised Mary as a child of God, teaching her to love and serve God. When the angel Gabriel told Mary that she had been chosen to be the Mother of Jesus, she already had great faith in God. Her strong faith and trust allowed her to say yes to God’s plan for her. We cannot be certain what the future holds for any newborn infant, but we do know that every person's life has meaning and purpose. When Mary was born, the world did not know who she was but her parents probably knew their daughter was special from the day she was born.

When we celebrate the birth of Jesus' mother, we also honor Jesus. We thank God for the gift of life and give honor to both Mary and Jesus by showing respect and concern for one another—remembering that God has created each person with love and with a call to something very special in life.

Hail Mary

Hail Mary, full of grace.

The Lord is with thee.

Blessed art thou among women,

and blessed is the fruit

of thy womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary,

Mother of God,

pray for us sinners,

now and at the hour of our death.

Amen

Are You Interested in Learning More About the Catholic Faith?

At the Parish of St Augustine’s, Corpus Christi and Annunciation we welcome people who are searching for spiritual meaning in their lives or for a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church. The RCIA is a process of discernment and learning for those who are not baptised and wanting to find out more about Catholic faith and for those already baptised in another Christian tradition who now desire to further their faith journey with the Catholic Church.

A new group will begin early September. If you would like further information about joining us, please contact Fr Werner or the Parish Office at yarraville@cam.org.au
