Dear Families & Friends.
Welcome back to Term 4, it can be a hard start to the term when Daylight savings is added and our bodies have to get used to it.
On Wednesday Alex, Amara and Timothy were part of the representation of STAPS students to attend the Division Athletics carnival. Alex (4C) ran brilliantly in the 200 metre race and the relay race against very fierce competition. Amara (4D) was part of her relay team, they put in a huge effort according to Mr O and came 3rd. Timothy (4B) cleared the High Jump bar to place 1st! Well done, We are very proud of you!

This week we have been settling back into routines, reminding ourselves of the expectations in the classrooms and revising our 'U have the Power" framework.

The Battery Blitz has started in our community, with a great response straight away. We have put the call out to our whole school community, however we still need your help! We have had a few people bringing a lot of used batteries, we would love to see a lot of our Jericho community bringing more in! Thankyou for your help.

English:

This week we returned to our story of Storm Boy, and we will continue this next week. We have been particularly looking at sentence structure and ensuring we understand the different types of sentence structures within the text, before trying to create them ourselves. Next week we will build on these skills to begin writing a paragraph that summarizes elements of the Storm Boy story.
Mathematics:
This week and next the students are focused on Multiplication and Division. This week they've been setting up a division problem using a standard algorithm using 1 digit numbers. Next week we will move into division problems using 2 and 3 digit numbers. It is very important the students are clear about the vocabulary we use during mathematics, so this is made clear in our teaching. Our number lens focus is on times tables, we are looking for instant recall of the out of sequence multiplication facts.

Religious Education:
This week the students have been learning what it means to be a pilgrim on a journey with God. They have been specifically focusing on learning what a pilgrim is, through the life of the Old Testament person of Abraham. The students are also learning about what a pilgrimage is, looking at the special places of Fatima, Lourdes and the Holy Land for example.
Next week, the students will prepare and take part in their own devotional journey, undertaking a Refugee Prayer Pilgrimage.
Social Emotional Learning & Integrated Studies:
This week the students reviewed Help Seeking Behaviours by identifying their trusted adults. We discussed how trusted adults behave and how they make us feel. We decided they have core qualities such as being approachable, understanding, reliable and understanding.
Next week we will be enhancing our learning from the National Action against Bullying. By enhancing belonging and connection we feel confident to be an upstander. Being an upstander means that we will say when someone is doing behaviours that are not ok.
Auslan:
This week the students began the term learning about the colours, identifying the sign and an object of that colour in our classrooms. Next week the students will be signing the type of pet they have or want, and what colour it will be.

The Year 4 community will be taking part in the Casey Battery Blitz. We are collecting used batteries from household devices from now until the first day of next term in our classrooms until the 17th of November. On the 17th November our batteries will be collected and weighed by the officials, and the winners announced the following week. The Year 4's are very motivated as they could win a pizza party for their community! Please help us, while also using an easy way to get rid of your dead batteries.
