Year Three

 Spotlight on Learning

Ephesus Community

Dear Families,

It’s wonderful to see our Year Three learners return refreshed and ready to continue their great learning and thrive this term. Students have settled back in beautifully and are already showing enthusiasm and focus in their classrooms.

A reminder that we are now in our SunSmart season, no hat, no play, so please ensure your child has their school hat each day.

This Week's Learning

Religious Education

In Religious Education, students are learning that Jesus teaches us to care for others, especially those who need help. Through stories, prayer, and classroom discussions, they are exploring ways they can show kindness, include others, and lend a helping hand in their daily lives.

Integrated Learning

Students are beginning to learn about community health, the things that help everyone stay healthy, not just doctors and hospitals. They are exploring how our shared spaces, like parks, walking paths, gardens, and playgrounds, help keep people active and connected. By noticing how our community supports physical health, students are learning that being healthy is something we all share and can help look after together.

English

In Writing, students are continuing to learn about how sentences can be built in different ways.

  • A simple sentence has one idea — The dog ran.
  • A compound sentence joins two ideas with a word like and, but or soThe dog ran and it barked.
  • A complex sentence adds more detail with words like because, when or ifThe dog ran because it saw a cat.

Mathematics

In Maths, students have been learning to use open arrays to solve bigger number problems. They used counters to show how numbers can be split into parts — for example, dividing a handful of counters into smaller groups. This helps them see how numbers work together. Students then used this idea to solve 2-digit and 3-digit multiplication problems. Open arrays help children move from using hands-on materials to thinking about numbers in their heads with confidence.

Social and Emotional Learning / RRRR

As part of our Social and Emotional Learning, students are learning that it’s okay to ask for help when they need it. Help-seeking is a positive skill that builds confidence and connection. Students are practising how to recognise when something feels too hard, who they can go to for support, and how to ask in a respectful way. Learning to ask for help helps children feel safe, supported, and ready to keep trying — even when things are challenging.
