Year Two

Spotlight on Learning

Damascus Community

Dear Families,

Welcome to Term Four! How quickly this year is going. We’re excited to be back into learning after the break. This is always a busy and fun term with lots of special events and activities happening as we finish the year together.

This term, we are helping students build routines and independence to get ready for Grade Three. Please remind your child to bring their school hat each day, fruit snack and pack enough food and a water bottle.

This week we learnt about:

Religious Education: We learnt about the Rosary this week. We talked about what all the beads mean, what the prayers are, what the mysteries are and why people pray the Rosary.

Mathematics: We learnt how to identify the nearest multiple of ten a number is closest to. We did this by using rounding rules. Ask your child what those rules are!

English: We read an informative text about wolves and explored how these amazing animals live and survive in the wild. Students then created their own wolf booklets, writing about the wolf’s features, body, and interesting facts they discovered. They enjoyed learning new vocabulary and sharing fascinating details about one of nature’s most fascinating predators!

AUSLAN: We are learning how to sign colours. We were even able to learn how to sign the Rainbow song.

Integrated Studies: We are talking about what it means to love one another and how we can show respect and love to each other at St Thomas.

Social Emotional Learning: We have been learning about how to tell others when we don’t like the way our body is being treated. Students practised using words and actions to let others know their boundaries and learnt how to seek help or find a trusted adult if someone touches them in a way that feels wrong or unsafe.
