Literacy-Reading - During whole class Reading, we focused on brain and emotions. We read the book 'Hey Warrior', a powerful and reassuring story that helps children understand anxiety and the role of the amygdala in the brain. It was wonderful to see how students connected with the message of the book, gathering strategies to recognise and manage big feelings, and writing about their own understanding of how to face worries with courage.

Literacy-Phonics -During Phonics, we looked at the o_e as in 'nose' and oe as. The grapheme s represents the /z/ sound when it is preceded by a voiced vowel. We also looked at oe as another way to write the the /o¯ /  sound.

Mathematics-This week and next week for Mathematics, we focused on addition and subtraction. We were also very excited to begin the journey of introducing Number Fluency Program for Term 4 with both Foundation and Year 1 in Term 4. Number fluency is when students can flexibly apply strategies to accurately and efficiently solve number-based problems.

Ways to engage with the newsletter:

  • Read or watch the weekly book with your child at home (there is often a read aloud on you tube). Talk about what the book's most important ideas are.

  • Ask your child to retell the story using their own words.

  • Talk about who the characters are, where the story is happening.

  • Use the spelling words provided to make up sentences at home or simply a 5 word mini dictation.

  • Take the idea around Mathematics and ask students to repeat an activity they did at school, with you.
