Spotlight on Learning

Galilee Community

Dear Foundation Families,

Welcome back to our wonderful students and families! We are so excited to begin our final stage of Foundation — Term 4! This term is filled with fantastic learning experiences, and our focus will be on preparing our students for a smooth and confident transition into Year 1.

Next week:

English:  This week, we are learning the /sh/ sound! Students will be practicing saying, reading, and writing words with the /sh/ sound, such as shed, shop, and shack.

Mathematics: This week in Mathematics, we are learning to count tens using a tens frame. We will continue to build our number fluency, which is supporting our independence and confidence in recognising, representing, and working with numbers.

Social Emotional Learning: This week, students explored the idea that boys and girls can like many different things. Through class discussions and sharing activities, we talked about our own likes and dislikes and listened to our friends to see what we had in common and what was different. This helps us to build respect, understanding, and inclusion within our classroom community.

Integrated: Next week, students will be learning to notice when they feel overwhelmed and explore different strategies to help themselves calm down. They will practice recognising their emotions and trying a range of calming techniques to discover what works best for them. You might like to talk with your child about which strategies help them feel calm at home. 🌿

Auslan:  This week in Auslan, we are learning that we sign the object first and then describe its features. Students have been practicing this by learning three different pet signs — ask your child to show you their favourite one at home! 🐶🐱🐰

Religion: This week, students will be learning about Socktober — a Catholic Mission initiative that helps raise awareness and support for children in need around the world. Students will learn what Socktober is and why it’s important to show compassion and take action to help others. 🧦🌍
