In STSS, students have continued to expand their understanding in Science, Technology, Sustainability and Stewardship.

Foundation - Year 2 

This term, our junior students will continue learning about materials and how they behave. The students will learn how different materials can be combined or used in specific ways depending on what we need them to do. Our learning will also be focusing on how materials can be altered by actions such as bending, stretching, twisting, or squashing, without changing what the material is made from. 

Year 3 - 4  

In Grades Three and Four, students will begin exploring the properties of both natural and manufactured materials, such as fibres, metals, glass, and plastics. They will investigate how the features of these materials (such as strength, flexibility, or durability) affect the ways in which we use them in everyday life. Students will also consider how these properties influence whether materials can be reused or recycled for other useful purposes.

Year 5 - 6 

Students in Grades Five and Six will continue to investigate how mixtures are made by combining two or more different substances. They will also be exploring how some mixtures can be combined, then separated again (for example filtering, separating or removing materials from liquids or other mixtures). In connection with this, students will also be introduced to the concept of reversible and irreversible changes to materials.
