Prep students created collages titled “Ants Carrying Heavy Stuff.” As part of the project, they watched a video called Amazing Ant Facts and discovered that ants can carry up to 50 times their body weight. Their artworks show ants carrying all sorts of things — from hamburgers and apples to cupcakes and even watermelons!

STEM Update

Over the past four weeks, students across the school have been immersed in exciting STEM projects that highlight creativity, problem-solving, and real-world applications of technology.

Prep – Digital Systems in Action

Prep students concluded their Digital Technologies unit by designing, building, and presenting model digital systems. Using recycled materials, they carefully chose hardware and software features to include and proudly demonstrated how their systems could be used. To wrap up the unit, they completed a drawing assessment, showing a digital system they use at home or school and explaining its purpose.

Year 1/2 – Building Technology Literacy

Year 1/2 students explored how digital systems support everyday life. They compared devices such as iPads and desktop computers, used PMI charts to evaluate pet trackers, and designed systems to support people with disabilities. Most recently, they created digital calendars, using words, numbers, and symbols to represent data. These activities helped students build confidence using technical vocabulary and applying it in real-world contexts.

Year 3/4 – Digital Systems and Data

In Year 3/4, students became “digital zoologists.” They explored how data can take many forms—text, numbers, photos, audio, and symbols—and how each communicates information. Using zoo maps, they examined how the same data can be represented differently depending on the audience. Acting as zoologists, they observed chimpanzee behaviours, organised tallies in Google Sheets, and created charts to present their findings.

Year 5/6 – Exploring Artificial Intelligence

Year 5/6 students have been investigating the fascinating world of artificial intelligence. Using Google’s Teachable Machine, they experimented with how AI learns from data and considered why the quality and quantity of data are important. More recently, they examined deep fakes, creating safety posters with strategies to recognise and respond to AI-generated content responsibly.

It has been inspiring to see students applying their STEM learning to real-world challenges with creativity and purpose. We look forward to building on these skills with new explorations in Term 4.

CPS Sport Update

CPS House Athletics Carnival

This term our Year 3–6 students took part in the CPS House Athletics Carnival at Sandringham Athletics Track. It was a fantastic day filled with track, field and novelty events, with students giving their best effort and proudly representing their house.

Our students competed in 100m, 200m, 800m, hurdles, shot put, discus, high jump, long jump and triple jump and also enjoyed some novelty parachute, vortex and foam javelin activities, so there were plenty of highlights and plenty of cheering from the sidelines.

It was wonderful to see the spirit, teamwork and encouragement on display throughout the carnival. Congratulations to all students for their participation and effort, and thank you to staff and families who came along to support and cheer.

District Athletics Success

Congratulations to the 39 CPS students who proudly represented our school at the District Athletics Carnival at Duncan Mackinnon this term. We are so proud of the effort, teamwork and determination shown by all competitors on the day.

A special congratulations to our 15 qualifiers (Emily, Ata, Kaylee, Alex O, Sienna, James, Noah, Leon, Luke, Sae, Callum, Meina, Alex B, Hudson, Tristan) who will progress through to the Division Athletics next term—we are so proud of you all and wish you all the very best!

Prep-2 Footy Fun!

With the AFL season in full swing, our Prep–2 students have been busy developing their footy skills during PE. They have been learning the fundamentals of kicking, handballing, marking and teamwork through a variety of fun and engaging activities. It has been fantastic to see their confidence grow as they practised new skills and encouraged one another.

Our students are showing great enthusiasm for the game, and it’s wonderful to see them getting involved in the spirit of the season.
