GEM Chats

As part of our work with The Resilience Project, we've been doing GEM chats in the classroom. We respond to a question or prompt that helps us to practise the GEM principles:

  • Gratitude
  • Empathy
  • Mindfulness
  • Emotional Literacy

Over the last few weeks, we've started bringing GEM chats beyond the classroom. Most afternoons, there will be a GEM chat to respond to outside the main building. We've had questions like "Who are you grateful for and why?", "What was a kind act you saw today?", and "What are you grateful for at home?". With excellent unplanned timing, two members of our community helped to pick up the textas I'd dropped on the way to setting up the prompt, "How can you be a helper today?".

Families are more than welcome to come and write their own responses. I hope it builds into a positive habit with families discussing Gratitude, Empathy, Mindfulness and Emotional Literacy at home.

If you'd like more information on how to practise at home, check out TRP@Home here.

Free Family Wellbeing Session

This semester, we've been working with Aoife (pronounced ee-fah) from One Red Tree in Ararat. They're an organisation that puts provisional psychologists in schools so they can provide supports that aren't always available in rural schools.

To finish her time with us, Aoife will be running a family session around strategies for emotional regulation and managing challenging behaviour. This session will take place on Tuesday June 11 from 5:00pm-6:00pm, with light refreshments provided.

All adult members of the school community are welcome to attend. To allow discussion of all relevant topics, we ask that children are not brought to this session.
