Lunchtime Concerts

Term 2, 2024

Week 2, students enjoyed a lovely concert at Wesley Uniting Church where musicians from the Australian Army Band – Kapooka presented a program of classical chamber and vocal music. Hearing the bassoon (a rare instrument!) was a treat along with clarinet and flute; the ensemble was joined by an amazing singer for items such as ‘Down by the Salley Gardens’ and Schubert’s beautiful ‘Du bist die Ruh’.

"I liked how well all the instruments and the opera singer worked together – it was very graceful."

"I liked the range of classical music, especially the Salley Gardens."

Week 3 saw The Kurrajong Ensemble, comprising flautists Fran and Keith Griffin and classical guitarist Harold Gretton, present an eminently International program. They performed Baroque masterpieces from France and Germany, a melodramatic piece of Italian Romanticism, a brand new original work by Australian ensemble member Fran Griffin, some sultry Argentinian Nuevo Tango, and even a cheeky waltz by the great Russian composer Prokofiev. The beautiful backdrop of the Wagga Wagga Art Gallery created a lovely atmosphere.

"I liked the Cinderella waltz and to hear the story through the music."

"I like the bass flute and how different it sounds."

Last week's Romantic Tapestries concert explored the interwoven nature of the voice and its storytelling counterpart, the piano, bringing poetry to life through music. The performance presented selections of German Lieder and French Melodies, as well as soprano solo items from the Romantic era. Vocalists Larissa Burak, Stephanie Johnston and Katherine Choi were supported on piano by Carmel Ryan.
