F-6 Disco
On Tuesday 14 May it was time to rewind the clocks and transport ourselves back to the electrifying era of disco. Our College had the pleasure of hosting an unforgettable event, an F-6 Disco. This was held as two discos, a F-3 Disco followed by a Year 4-6 Disco. From funky beats to glittering lights, here's a recap of the groovy night that had everyone on their feet.
The atmosphere was electric as students and teachers, gathered in the Brigidine Centre, transformed into a dazzling discotheque straight out of the '70s. With neon glow sticks casting mesmerising reflections across the room and disco lights moving to the rhythm, it was clear that an unforgettable night lay ahead. As the clock struck 4 pm, the infectious beats filled the air, setting the stage for an evening of non-stop dancing and pure entertainment. From classic disco anthems to modern remixes, the F-6 Disco delivered keeping students enthralled from start to finish.
But the magic of the night extended beyond just the music. The students' dynamic outfits and infectious energy ignited everyone, encouraging even the most reserved dancers to let loose and embrace their inner groove (I believe Mr Sutton could be seen dancing on several occasions). The dance floor was a melting pot of smiles, laughter, and enthusiastic moves, showcasing the unifying power of music to bring people together. Students practiced their social skills along with their dancing skills. It was an educational experience disguised as pure entertainment, leaving a lasting impact on all who attended.
As the night drew to a close and the final notes faded away, there was a collective sense of euphoria lingering in the air. The F-6 Disco had succeeded in creating an unforgettable experience proving that the spirit of disco is alive and thriving in our College community.
F-4 Community Information Evening
On Tuesday 21 May, we held several information sessions for families interested in attending St Augustine’s College. The first of the sessions was for our F-4 Community, followed by an opportunity for our families to walk through the Year 3/4 learning spaces and engage with a number of interactive displays.
One of the most enriching aspects of the evening was witnessing the strong sense of community spirit that permeates our College. Parents, teachers, and administrators came together with a shared passion for nurturing and educating our young learners. The camaraderie and support shown by our F-4 staff was truly heartwarming.
During the information session, our dedicated educators provided an overview of our curriculum, emphasising our commitment to holistic development. From core subjects to specialised programs, it was evident that our curriculum is designed to inspire curiosity and ignite a love for learning in every child.
Central to our teaching philosophy is the belief that each child is unique and deserves an education tailored to their individual needs and strengths. Through interactive displays our passionate teachers shared their innovative approaches to fostering creativity, critical thinking, and resilience in our students, ensuring they are well-equipped for success in an ever-evolving world.
We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all parents and caregivers who attended the Information Evening. Your active participation and insightful questions demonstrate your commitment to your child's education and our College community. We look forward to collaborating closely with you in the journey ahead, as partners in your child's growth and development. The Information Evening was a resounding success, reaffirming our shared dedication to providing an exceptional educational experience for our students.

Foundation
This week the Foundation students have begun their Numeracy Unit 'Shape'. They have explored straight and curved lines, searched for shapes in the classroom and enjoyed various hands-on activities.
On Monday 13 May the Foundation students visited the Kyabram CFA. The students learned all about how to be safe in a fire and what the volunteers do to help us. They were given the opportunity to go into a set up room and practise how to "get down low and go, go, go!" The students had a great time using the hose and exploring the fire truck. A big thank you to the volunteers who ran the morning for us.
Years 1 and 2
What a wonderful morning we had celebrating the special ladies in our lives for Mother's Day! Our 1/2 students did a lovely job during our Mass, singing and completing readings before heading back to our classrooms for some special activities. We enjoyed planting seedlings, painting nails, making crowns or beaded necklaces and bags of bath salts.
We hope all our Mums, Nans, Grandmas and other special women in our lives had a relaxing Mother's Day spent with family.
We are working hard during Literacy to apply our new concepts each week into our Friday spelling tests. Don't forget to read readers sent home from class and your online decodable readers. Please see your TA if you need help logging on to this.
We are writing in complete sentences that include capital letters, full stops, nouns, verbs and adjectives. The Year 1 students recently enjoyed cutting up and making some funny sentences as a group. Year 2 students are working on different types of sentences and when they are used.
In Maths the Year 1s are learning all about measurement. We have been measuring length, mass and capacity. It has been interesting to use string to measure length and balance scales to measure mass. The Year 2s have been continuing their work on place value and are doing a terrific job being organised with all their math equipment each session.
In RE we are undertaking a unit called Daily Life in Jesus's time. It was great fun trying some of the foods Jesus would have eaten!
In Inquiry we planted a bean seed and made predictions about how long it would take to grow and how high it would grow. We also looked at what the seeds will need to grow such as soil, water and sunlight. You can imagine our surprise when our seeds grew into a plant with beans!
It was fantastic to see lots of our Year 1/2 students at the disco in week 5!
The DJ had everyone grooving around the BC and the goody bags were certainly a big hit!
Years 3 and 4
Year 3/4 students have been working on creating a video about being a Good Samaritan. Students thought about a time that they were a Good Samaritan. They then created puppets and are using Stop Motion or i-Movie to create a short video.
