Learning in Action

Reading:

During our reading sessions this fortnight students have been looking at identifying the target audience for different persuasive texts. We looked at different commercials and posters and discussed who and what are they persuading someone to do or buy. Students have looked at how we can identify the authors opinions and the reasons they have provided.

Preview for Learning:

Students will learn about modal verbs and how they change the verb.

Writing:

We have been looking at fragments of sentences and students needed to complete the sentences by identifying the missing parts. Each sentence needed to include a subject, verb, and adverbial where. Students discussed the purpose of different types of sentences and how we could respond to the different types.

Students will be learning about the purpose of commas.

Maths:

Our number focus has still been subtraction and students have been finding the difference between 2 numbers using concrete materials and number lines. Students learnt how part and total connect addition and subtraction and the different number equations that can be made.

In our area unit students have been working on finding the area of different shapes using informal or formal units.

Our number focus remains subtraction and students will use a bar model to solve subtraction problems. Students will begin to learn about volume.

Inquiry:

Our visit to different landmarks in Melbourne was such a success. Students did a wonderful job identifying what made them managed and man-made landmarks. We did lots of walking and I know there were some very tired students on the bus ride home.

Landmarks:

Students reflected on their excursion from last week.

Geography:

Students used positional and directional language to identify and write different places on our school map.

Intercultural:

Our study this week was on South Africa

Wellbeing:

In our RRRR program students have been continuing with stress management.

We also looked at what is a bystander and upstander. We discussed some problems that occur outside in the playground and students broke off into groups and role played being an upstander and a bystander.
