From the 5/6 Classrooms

It is all happening in the Grade 5/6 Cohort. In numeracy, we are designing a farm for 'Farmer Fields' to develop our measurement and financial skills. In Literacy, we are stepping back 100 years and writing a letter from a historical character.
Numeracy
Farmer Field's Farm Activity involves students designing a dream farm following Farmer Field's strict guidelines. Students need to include a variety of angles and shapes, and calculate perimeter and area. When planting vegetables, they need to consider the cost of seeds. When deciding how many animals can fit, they have to investigate the cost of fencing.
Literacy
Every Friday, after our spelling test, we complete a quick write. This involves being given a prompt and then writing down everything our creative minds can think of. This week the prompt was You are writing a message from any person who lived 100 years ago. The message is put in a bottle and thrown into the ocean for someone in the future to read. What would you write? The prompt encouraged us to use all the information we have gained over this term for our historical narratives.
Grade 5s and 6s Working Hard
A reminder that home learning each week involves spelling practice, reading for twenty minutes every night, and completing four Essential Assessment modules. Ask your classroom teacher if you have any queries regarding this programme.
Look forward to seeing you all at the parent Teacher Interviews this month.
Regards from the 5/6 teaching team.
