Drama

May has been a busy month in the theatre with performance evenings from Y10, 11 and 12 drama.

On May 15th Y10 Drama presented their ensemble works based on the story of King Midas and the idea of materialism. The Y10 class demonstrated great skill in applying conventions of dramatic storytelling; with bold character transformations, charming narration and energetic performances from all. There were brilliant comedic moments that were delicately contrasted with heartfelt moments of pathos.

On May 16th the Y11 Drama students showcased multiple performance styles inspired by our excursion to see 'Hamlet' in Bendigo. These ensemble performances were set in a circus that needed to adapt to retain its audience in hard times. With one group leaning towards Commedia del Arte style caricature... and the other group utilising conventions of Brecht's Epic Theatre to intrigue.

On May 23rd it was the Y12's turn with their 'Blast the Canon'. Their mastery of comic timing and witty scripting saw an evening full of laughs. Their work questioned what would happen if the world of the literary canon were to collide with present day content creators.
