World Music Woodwind Concert
On Wednesday 29th May, woodwind students travelled around the world musically to discover music and a bit of history about compositions and composers. Presenting individually, in small groups and with or without accompaniment, we travelled from Australia, through Asia and into Eastern and Western Europe. We had a fun stop over in Finland and covered music from many centuries finishing in our current century with all the flutes, clarinets and alto saxes and teachers joining together for the grand finale. Well done to all students involved. Special thanks to Mason Powell who did a brilliant job compering the GiG and thanks to all parents and friends for being an appreciative audience.

Music Workshop
At the beginning of week 7, Phoenix College joined together with Ballarat High School’s Concert Band to participate in a workshop after school. The idea was for students to collaborate to learn 3 new compositions by Nick Sherrif, a composer based in Horsham. Both Ms Heather George (Ballarat High School Concert Band) and Mr John Netherway (Phoenix College Concert Band) worked with the students to help develop their understanding and playing of the works written by Nick Sherrif. Later in the term our the students will meet again with Phoenix College as well as other Grampian’s region schools to participate in another workshop and recording session at BHS which Nick Sherrif himself will conduct. This event was a great collaboration and learning opportunity for our music students in Y10-12 to be involved in.

VCE Music Classes
Last week, students from the Y11 & Y12 VCE Music classes performed at separate Term 2 performance evenings. Each student presented a song they have been developing throughout the term.
All students performed well, with a healthy showing of support from attending family and friends.
