MRugby Report

Whilst the Rugby season may have concluded, our Year 10 and 11 girls are still hard at work. NSW Rugby have created the Waratah Shield which is a statewide ten-a-side knockout competition. This week our girls progressed through to the next stage taking out the regional final by beating Dubbo Senior Campus in a very convincing fashion. Our girls were outstanding in both attack and defence and won the final 46 – 24.

Our game in the next stage will be against Westfield Sports High and we are waiting to hear the date and location. We look forward to our next match and watching the continuing development of our Girls' Rugby Program.

KWS U14 Stars vs KWS U14 Sixers – Round 2

The KWS Stars started their season with a strong victory over rivals KWS Sixers. Choosing to bat first, the Stars’ opening duo, Angus O’Brien and Charlie, laid a solid foundation. Ben Chambers followed with an attacking 46, and Nick Wood’s unbeaten 25* helped the team post a competitive total of 128. In their bowling defense, Fred Derham bowled a tight opening spell, while Mitch Granger took the crucial first wicket. Vivaan Desai was the standout with 3/8, supported by Chambers with 2/5, as the Sixers were bowled out for 92, securing a 36-run win for the Stars.

KWS U14 Thunder vs. Orange City Gladiators – Round 2

KWS Thunder faced Orange City in a challenging season opener, managing to score 75, thanks largely to Freddy Stevens, who carried his bat for an unbeaten 44. However, with limited support, Thunder struggled to build momentum. In response, Orange City chased down the target in 17 overs, despite Thunder’s tight bowling from Henry Power, Huw Hutchings, Jim Jones, and leg-spinner George Anderson. Though defeated, the team showed resilience, and with further improvement, they look poised to bounce back.

KWS U16 Scorchers vs. Orange Cavaliers – Round 2

In Round 2, the Kinross Wolaroi School U16 Scorchers faced off against the Orange Cavaliers. After losing the toss, the Scorchers bowled first but struggled to take early wickets, allowing the Cavaliers to put up a solid total of 5/171. Billy Baldwinson stood out with the ball, taking 3 wickets for 18 runs in his 5 overs. He continued his form with the bat, scoring 28 runs, with Tom Kerr also contributing. However, the Scorchers were dismissed for 75, falling short of the target. Despite the loss, there were positives to take away, with areas identified for improvement in training.

Centenary Cup – Round 1 and 2

In Round 1, Kinross’s 2nd XI started strong, putting up 138 runs on a damp field, led by Henry Luelf’s unbeaten 64. With Rory Gulliver striking early and standout performances from Charlie Keirle, Noah Martin, and Archie Fergusson (each taking two wickets), Kinross claimed a comfortable victory. In Round 2, Kinross’s total of 180 was boosted by Charlie O’Brien’s impressive 84*. Their bowling attack then dismantled Centrals, limiting them to about 80, with a memorable diving catch from captain and wicketkeeper Max Lawson sealing the win.

First XI – Rounds 2 and 3

In Round 2 Kinross bowled Cavaliers out for 115, thanks to early wickets from Jack Harding and Hugh Shannon’s economical spell. Leg-spinner Sam Split took three wickets, setting Kinross a target of 116. After a rocky chase, Ben Brazier’s quick 37 and Jonny Gee’s support guided Kinross to victory in the 39th over.

Round 3 saw a close contest against Orange City, who set a target of 171. Harry Brazier and Walter Prowse’s steady partnership took Kinross to 70 by drinks. Despite a fighting 25 from Will Younghusband, Kinross fell short by 20 runs due to strong death bowling from Orange City.

These opening matches showcased Kinross’s depth across all levels and set a promising tone for the season.

Rowing Report

Kinross Wolaroi Rowing has had a strong fortnight of consistent training, with our first competition now just 17 days away. Crews have been fully focused on preparation, emphasising T2 volume and aerobic base development both on and off the water. Coach Bettle reports positive progress on the strength and conditioning front, and we've been fortunate to enjoy fantastic training conditions on Spring Creek, allowing for sharp, efficient water sessions.

The squad has also drawn inspiration from the efforts of 2016 KWS Captain of Boats, Nedd Brockmann. In support, the team has embraced “Nedd’s Uncomfortable Challenge,” with Senior rowers logging over 60 km per week and Juniors pushing past 40 km on the water. Contributions are still welcome through our group page at Nedd’s Uncomfortable Challenge – Kinross Wolaroi Rowing Team (neddsuncomfortablechallenge.com).

Collectively, the squad’s effort and dedication have been impressive, setting a strong foundation as we head toward the NSW All Schools Regatta. Full steam ahead!

Social Tennis Report

The 2024 season of Social Tennis has got off to a flying start with many friendly new faces on the court. Due to the high amount of numbers this season, training has been split into Year groups, with Year 7 and 8 on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and Year 9, 10 and 11 on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Our external coaches for the season are Darren Gersbach and Eleanor Crane. With many new people doing Tennis this term, our coaches have started the season off with the basics and have been doing work on ground strokes and grips. We have also done a refresh on scoring and students have been involved in doubles and singles match play. In the coming weeks we will be developing student’s volleys and serves.

ISA Touch Football

Match Report

Division 1

The Kinross Touch Football teams kicked the ISA season off by traveling to Sydney for their first ever Gala Day. The Division 1 girls had their first game against Barker at 10am, winning the game 2-1. The second game was played against Redlands and the girls scored a total of 6 tries within the 25 minutes. After each game, there was a noticeable improvement in the team’s attacking play and intensity. All girls should be commended on winning 3 out of 4 games, with a close draw of 2-2 against Central Coast Grammar. Special mentions go to Kate Deshon and Lucy Atkinson who played all four games without a sub.

Inter A

The Inter A season got off to a great start with our girls going through all matches on the Gala Day undefeated. This was a remarkable effort given it was not only their first outing as a team but for some it was their first competitive game of touch ever. The tone for the day was set with a strong 6-1 victory over the traditionally strong Barker College with the girls working together well in both attack and defense. Through structured gameplay and good communication, the team was able to continue their winning run against SCEGGS Redlands, Oakhill College and Central Coast Grammar School.

Junior A

The Junior A’s displayed excellent teamwork and a positive attitude across all 3 games played. With a total of 12 tries scored across the day, all players worked together to ensure that they would remain undefeated. Special mentions go to Pippa Wise, Camilla Hutchings, Josie Curry and Olivia Gordon who had their first debut as part of the Junior A side. All players should be exceptionally proud of the results that they achieved.

Junior B (Barramundis)

It was extremely pleasing to see how quickly the Barramundis came together in their games, working extremely hard and showing a strong team spirit under the captaincy of Sophie Dedman and Daisy McKay, who have already shown their wonderful leadership qualities. The first game against Barker saw Jemima Young open the scoring with an excellent break. This was followed by tries to Tilly Tancred and Ingrid West who both displayed great pace and evasive skills to get over the line. The next two matches showcased the Barramundis attacking skills with Clare, Daisy and Sophie continuing to create opportunities in the middle. The entire team benefitted greatly from the experience of playing these first three games and all players should be exceptionally proud of their efforts and the results they achieved.

ISA Tennis Report

The sun was shining as the ISA Season of Tennis kicked off with Kinross v Kinross here in Orange. Our students were eager to get on the court and put to use what they have been practicing during trainings. The morning was made up of doubles and singles matches. The format is two Fast 4 sets with a tie-breaker at 3 all and if the sets are one a piece, another tie-breaker is played to determine the winner. All players in the squad are ranked from 1-12. The ‘Odd’ numbers make up one team of 6 players, and the ‘Even’ numbers make up the other team.

The doubles matches were played first with some games going for 2 hours. Well done to James Ashton and Liam Vaira, Anabelle van Wyk and Ashton Quinn-Woonton and Milli Mackay and Lucy Baldwinson for winning their first doubles matches of the season. Singles games were then played amongst the KWS students and all showed a great competitive nature and wonderful sportsmanship. Congratulations to Charlie Hall, Jack Steventon Anabelle van Wyk, Ashton Quinn-Woonton, Lachlan Watts and Lucy Baldwinson for winning their singles matches.

Thank you to all the parents and grandparents that came to watch the games. It was a great environment and the students all really appreciated your support. Round 2 will be held in Bathurst at the local tennis courts starting at 8 am.

Waterpolo

Competition night 24/10/2023 – ROUND 2

Through the first two rounds of the competition, the teams have shown resilience and solid performance, reflecting the effectiveness of their training and the dedication of the coaching staff. This positive start lays a strong foundation for a successful season ahead, and we look forward to seeing continued growth and achievement in the upcoming rounds.

Basketball Report

With the season well and truly started its important that all players are now registered. I would like to remind everyone of the importance of wearing the correct gear to taring and games and as the weather warms up its important that we are being sun smart and stay hydrated.

This season we have started social basketball and competitive basketball-

Competitive basketball will require 2 trainings a week in the Anderson centre plus games.

Social basketball will train outside once a week plus games.

Whether you are in social or competitive the expectations remain the same.

Please can all players and carers keep an eye on the Basketball HUB page as this is the platform that we will use to communicate anything regarding Basketball.

Encouraging Good Sportsmanship

Good sportsmanship is the cornerstone of a successful season. It involves respect for opponents, coaches, and referees, and it promotes fair play and integrity. Here are a few key points to emphasize:

  • Respect for All: Players should always respect their opponents and officials. This sets a positive tone for games and builds a community around mutual respect.
  • Grace in Victory and Defeat: Winning is exciting, but it’s important to handle victories and losses gracefully. Congratulating opponents and acknowledging their efforts fosters a sense of camaraderie.
  • Support for Teammates: Encouraging teammates, regardless of their performance, helps build a strong team spirit. Celebrating successes together and lifting each other up during tough moments strengthens bonds.

Importance of Teamwork

Teamwork is essential for success in basketball. It allows players to work together effectively and enhances overall performance. Here’s why teamwork matters:

  • Effective Communication: Teamwork encourages open communication, helping players to strategize and make quick decisions during games.
  • Shared Goals: Working towards common objectives builds unity. Each player understands their role and contributes to the team’s success.
  • Conflict Resolution: Teamwork teaches players to navigate conflicts constructively, fostering a supportive environment where everyone feels valued.

Over the first few weeks of the season I would like the focus to be on good sportsmanship and teamwork.

I look forward to a successful season for all involved and wish all players and coaches the very best for the season.
