Year 7 Locker Move

On Friday 25 October, excitement and energy filled the Year 7 Quad. Last Friday marked an exciting step in Year 7’s secondary school journey, as they moved from the Year 7 Quad to their dedicated Wellbeing House areas. This transition was marked with energy and enthusiasm from all involved, as music and laughter filled the Quad and the House areas.

As is tradition at Kinross Wolaroi, incoming House leaders guided our students through the transition process. A big thank you goes to our Year 7 mentors, Head Mentors and House Leaders for making this a smooth and memorable transition for our Year 7 students. Lastly, a big congratulations to our Year 7s – well done!

NAIDOC Week

Every July, Australia celebrates NAIDOC Week to honor the histories, cultures, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.

We are on Wiradjuri Country in Orange and as it can be colder during the winter months, our community celebrates NAIDOC Week in October.

In 2024, NAIDOC Week in Orange begun on 18 October and concluded on 26 October. This year’s theme is "Keep the Fire Burning! Bla*k, Loud and Proud!".  This theme celebrates the resilience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities and calls for unity from us all.

On Monday 21 October, Mrs Milliken, Mr Barrett, Mrs Oldroyd and our Year 6 Badged leaders attended the Orange NAIDOC March alongside Mr Taylor, Mr McLean and Senior School students. This was a great event to officially launch NAIDOC Week in Orange and an even better way for us to learn more about our local Wiradjuri histories and cultures.

We thank Mr McLean and Mr Taylor for helping lead the organisation of this event and look forward to celebrations in 2025 and beyond.

Year 10 Art Excursion

Year 10 Visual Arts students recently had the opportunity to have a guided tour of the Archibald Prize exhibition at the Orange Regional Gallery. This travelling exhibition is a selection from this year’s Archibald Prize held at the Art Gallery of New South Wales. Started in 1921, this often-controversial exhibition shows portraits of Australians notable for a wide range of reasons, providing an intriguing window into the nation’s zeitgeist. As always the Orange Regional Gallery has done an exemplary job of displaying this prestigious exhibition. The students were treated to a private tour with the extremely knowledgeable Cecile Knowles for an in-depth exploration of the portraits in the exhibition. For this we extend our thanks to the gallery, and the wonderful job it does in securing such a high standard of exhibitions, providing an important cultural richness to our community.

The 2024 Australian Mathematics Competition

The 2024 Australian Mathematics Competition was held in Term 3 this year, with the School’s top Maths students from Years 7 to 11 taking part, to measure their Mathematics problem solving abilities against the rest of the country.

Many of our students achieved outstanding results in this year’s competition. Congratulations to all students. Among these pleasing results, the students listed below were awarded with Distinction awards or higher, placing them among the highest achieving students in the country. A special note of congratulations goes to Nicholas Wood for achieving a high-ranking Distinction result in the Junior level of the competition, which saw him recognised with the ‘Best in School’ Award.
