Nurturing Courage: Term 4 Professional Development
"Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, 'I will try again tomorrow." Mary Anne Radmacher
Where courage has long been a core Kambala value, part of our professional learning journey has focused on unpacking what these values mean for our current context. On our Term 4 staff professional development day, we delved into the dispositions that we align with the value of courage with an emphasis on perseverance, critical thinking, agility in risk-taking and ambition in transforming ideas into action.
A central part of the day was deepening our shared understanding about the learning that matters beyond subject-specific syllabus demands. To explore this further, we drew on educational thinkers such as Leon Furze, who discusses AI's impact on classrooms, Rachel Simmons, a key figure in addressing educators' responsibilities in girls’ schools, and bell hooks, a theorist and educator who highlights the need to challenge traditional pedagogical practices.
Whether our students' version of courage “roar[s]” with ambition or is a “quiet voice” of perseverance, our participation in professional development demonstrates an ongoing commitment to fostering a culture of thinking that enhances the possibilities of Kambala learning experiences.
