Boarding

Year 12

This week marks the final week of formal classes for our Year 12 cohort, and for our boarders, the notion of finishing at College is slowly becoming a reality. Year 12 boarders are experiencing a great sense of emotion building this week. They are in a space where they are being celebrated, celebrating themselves, concluding their time in their home away from home, and preparing for their next step, while preparing for their final examinations. It is a time in their lives when they are juggling so much, and their minds must be spinning.

As adults, when we consider what they are going through and what is on their minds, it is truly commendable that they are doing all this with grace and poise. I am so impressed by our Year 12 boarders, not only for this week but for every week of this year. In celebrating them this week at their Boarding Dinner, it will certainly be mentioned that they are a cohort of maturity, integrity, and authenticity. While individually unique, they have also collectively promoted our College values, particularly optimism, resilience, and compassion. I must underscore this has been duly led by our Boarding Captains, Bella Chow and Charlie Mahar, and this is has been exceptional.

Additionally, the followership and trust from boarders and staff alike have been equally impressive. Allowing Bella and Charlie to lead with merit, intent, and high standards is a testament to the Boarding House as a whole, and this makes me so proud.

The staff and I will miss our departing Year 12 cohort, and they leave big shoes to fill. Our fellow boarders, though, will miss them terribly. We have Year 12 boys who have mentored Year 7s, and Year 12 girls who have known and guided Year 7 boarders here at College, but also back in their hometowns. Our Year 12s must leave and depart our school grounds, but they will always be a part of College Boarding, and they are welcome to return at any stage in the future.

I wish each and every one of our 25 Year 12 boarders the very best for their final week and every success in their upcoming examination period.
