At MESC we are committed to providing young people with a greater understanding of ways to have healthy relationships and to bring awareness to gendered stereotypes and their impacts on our relationships.

Last week we hosted several RRRR workshops that develop emotional intelligence in our young people.

One group of workshops was with Brother Nature on healthy masculinity. This was run with all of our year 8 students, and a more focussed session with a group of year 8 and 9 boys.

We have had really positive feedback from our young people about this workshop and hope to run more in early 2025.

We also hosted an all-day workshop with a group of year 7, 8 and 9 girls with Seed Workshops with a focus on body image and unrealistic beauty standards in the times of social media, stress management and friendship. Some of the feedback from the girls is below:

This was all very good, and the Best of Friends workshop was excellent. The best part was doing the crafts and the letters - it was really fun. I learnt strategies for fights, more about consent, about body-image, about calling people names, and discrimination. I'd recommend this program to others.

I wasn’t actually sure what this was going to be like but it turned out to be really good. I loved when we got to make our envelopes. I learnt to love myself, and to respect others.

I didn't expect to enjoy today at all, but it was really good. Media Wise and Best of Friends were excellent, and I enjoyed learning about the media because it's good to know more, especially about that. I learnt about gender stereotypes. I'd recommend to others.
