Northcote Public Speaking Competition

Each year the Grade 6 students enter a Public Speaking Competition in Northcote. This year's theme was 'team effort" . Each student wrote and presented their speech to the cohort and the students voted for the best 3. These three students went to Northcote High School yesterday to compete.

Over the past couple of months, we’ve been working on our speeches for the Northcote High School Year 6 Speech competition, and this Thursday the time finally came. We brought some friends for support and made our way into the Northcote High School theatre room, greeted by two lovely year 8 girls who made for an amazing experience and helped ease our nerves. With our friends and our families and our amazing teacher Kara by our side, we and four other schools presented speeches about the topic, ‘Team Effort’. We sat through each speech, some emotional and some funny but each was unique and amazing. In-between speeches we played a variety of fun games that helped us gain confidence and laugh and bond together. By the end, even though none of us placed, we were all proud of what we had done and all congratulated and supported each other through and through. Looking back, we are grateful for a fun experience with friends, and we are looking forward to more opportunities like this come our high school years.

Today In 5/6CB, a challenge was set to write narratives, songs, and poems using only three-letter words. This exciting exercise encouraged them to think outside the box and explore language in new ways, resulting in some truly imaginative pieces!
