In the September school holidays, 17 students studying Italian were very fortunate to once again travel to Italy. They travelled to several well-known places during the fortnight. After arriving in Rome, the group travelled to the famous seaside towns of Sorrento, Positano, and Capri. Then the tour refocused on history, visiting the ancient cities of Pompeii, Rome, Florence, Pisa, Verona, and Venice. The journey wrapped up with time spent in the modern cities of Milan and Maranello. Below are some reflections from some of the students who attended:
'The most memorable moment was the Ferrari Museum. The iconic red Ferraris, getting to sit in one and getting to drive in a simulator. This was only one of the many memorable moments on the trip. I also enjoyed Sorrento because of the immaculate views and the stunning beaches. My favourite food was the pizza in Sorrento served by our wonderful waiter Fabio. I would definitely recommend the Italy trip to students in the future. It is an amazing once in a lifetime experience.' – Leo Nicholson
'My favourite and most interesting places were Pisa, the Colosseum, and the different islands. They all had a different history and were beautiful. I would recommend the trip to other students for a number of reasons, not only for the trip itself and the amazing landmarks, but the relationship you make with each person on the trip and the new friendships.' – Anastasia Mercieca
'My favourite places to visit were Florence and Venice. This is because of the amount of shopping to be done, food to be eaten, and views and art to take in. Sorrento and the other islands were also beautiful, and I would recommend them because of the coastal views. My favourite food on the trip was basically all the pizza and pasta because there are so many types and flavours to eat and make. I would recommend this trip to future students because it’s a chance to make friends not only inside your own year level but from other year levels. I walked away from this trip with many more friends, experiences and memories. It's something you may never get the chance to do again, and you will regret not going.' – Tobias Floramo
'The best part of the trip was the cooking class with Alberto and Lorenzo. We made a tomato and bacon pasta which was delicious and learnt from the coolest cooks in Florence. The Italian language lessons in Rome helped me improve my Italian as Giulia spoke totally in Italian which forced me to listen very hard and interpret as much as I could to participate in class. I would definitely make sure I go back to Sorrento and the islands, Venice, and Florence. Venice was very interesting and brought a new view of life. Florence was fun as the people were very nice and the night life was amazing. This trip was very inspirational, and I am so glad I went. I would recommend this trip to anybody studying Italian as it broadened my knowledge of Italian culture.' – Elsie Jenkins
'The best part of the trip was dancing to Abba's 'Dancing Queen' In Rome with Matilda. We had the entire restaurant cheering us on and the waiters dancing with us. Other great parts of the trip were the cooking classes and free chances to explore certain areas as everyone grew closer and formed amazing friendships. I left the trip with many new friends and amazing experiences. My favourite place to visit was Milan as it is the fashion capital, and it had several shops which I loved. Milan was beautiful in architecture and also in its own atmosphere. Being in Milan was an experience in itself. My favourite food whilst in Italy was the pasta made in the cooking class. It was nice knowing I had made it myself and it still tasted amazing. I would highly recommend this trip to anybody doing Italian because it is a once in a lifetime experience which I will always remember and want to relive. It taught me so much about the culture and the language, and you get much more out of the language by going to Italy instead of only doing language classes.' – Aryah Hughes
'Every place we visited I loved because they were all so different and there was nothing else like them. The islands were so much fun, and we all had an amazing time. Sorrento, Positano, Capri, and Amalfi were beautiful and had amazing shopping and gelato. This trip is a great opportunity to make friends. After this trip I have some of the greatest friends and we all became so close. Your Italian feels a lot better, and overall it's just an amazing once in a lifetime opportunity.' – Livvie Sexton
'I loved visiting Florence because of the relaxing vibe that it gives off and the way the teachers could just let us wander around the city and we were safe. I recommend this trip to future students because it is a great opportunity, and you get much closer to all your peers. Getting to meet and speak to people in Italy is lots of fun, and you don't have to plan anything, you just enjoy your time!' – Julia O’Bryan
Thank you to the staff who attended the tour for looking after the students and making this such a successful trip.
