YEAR 7 CAMP – VICTOR HARBOR

During the second last week of Term 3, our Year 7 students travelled to the Adare Camp in Victor Harbor.

The students had a great experience participating in a number of activities: body boarding, mountain bike riding, kayaking, fly kiwi, raft building, beach games, and walking around Granite Island. The highlight was the Big Duck Boat Tour where students and staff were able to get up close to dolphins.

Thank you to the staff who attended the camp, and we hope the staff and student relationships built during the camp translate to positive relationships in the classroom. While camp experiences are great for the students in terms of building a sense of belonging and connectedness to the college and with each other, they simply cannot happen without dedicated staff who are willing to attend.

YEAR 9 CAMP – CENTRAL AUSTRALIA

A massive thank-you to the staff who attended the Year 9 Central Australia Camp. As with all camps, these experiences are only available because staff put their hand up to get involved and offer these opportunities to the students. This year we took 94 students (our biggest group ever) who had an amazing trip – which included a flight from Uluru back to Melbourne. We also had a number of students join the camp in Alice Springs after participating in their respective Netball and Football Grand Finals, and students who left the camp early to attend the Italy Study Tour.

Highlights of the camp included visiting Uluru, Kata Tjuta (The Olgas), hiking Kings Canyon, riding camels through the bush, visiting the Alice Springs Desert Park, the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) Visitor Centre, and Bounce in Adelaide. Students also had the opportunity to relax and just enjoy time with friends at the many caravan park swimming pools.

The camp gave students the opportunity to not only see new things but to also build stronger relationships with their peers and the staff. Many students were taken out of their comfort zones, whether that be hiking 6km around a canyon, setting up and packing up tents, or even cleaning their own dishes and washing their clothes. It will be an experience that the students will remember fondly for many years to come.

ITALY STUDY TOUR

The College offered our first international study tour post covid during the Term 3 holiday period. A group of 17 very lucky students (accompanied by staff) had the time of their lives in Italy visiting many amazing places, including: Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi, Capri, Pompeii, Rome, Florence, Pisa, the Ferrari factory in Maranello, Venice, Murano, Burano, Verona and Milan.

The students were outstanding, and we received many positive comments from the hotel staff, tour leaders, fellow tourists ,and locals about how fantastic they were.

I thank the staff that supervised the students and got the opportunity to experience Italy with them. A massive thank-you to Mrs Casey Cadmore for her outstanding organisation that allowed the tour to run so smoothly.
