GTASA Photography Competition:

Jazlyn Yii

A huge congratulations to Year 9 student Jazlyn Yii, for being selected as a finalist in the Geography Teachers Association of South Australia Photography Competition.

Jazlyn Yii was shortlisted in the competition and attended an awards ceremony at the State Library of South Australia on Saturday,

26 October where she received a certificate, and her photograph framed.

The theme for this year’s competition was “Globally Connected”, and entrants were required to simply take their own photo of a place that represents their local area (neighbourhood, suburb or place visited elsewhere in South Australia) as a place influenced by its connections with other parts of the world. Entrants were also required to write a brief description (less than 100 words) which how the photograph linked to the theme.

There were 12 shortlisted photographs from around the state and they are on display in a public exhibition at the State Library of South Australia in Adelaide from 15 October until

15 December 2024.

Congratulations must also go to the other four Endeavour College students (Chloe Tan, Eliska Wirth, Justin Biner and Keadon Tea) whose photos were also entered into the competition and missed the shortlisting this year.

We encourage all Year 7, 8 and 9 students to enter the competition in 2025.

Premier's ANZAC Spirit School Prize 2024:

Amee Mann

Congratulations to Amee Mann (Year 9), who has been announced as an awardee in the 2024 Premier’s ANZAC Spirit School Prize competition. Hundreds of students participated in the competition this year, with twenty students winning an award.

This competition was established in 2007 by the State Government in conjunction with the South Australian branch of the RSL. It aims to encourage young South Australians to recognise, empathise with and maintain the ANZAC Spirit.

The prize is open to all Year 9 and 10 students in South Australia. Those who participate are required to identify, research, and write a report about a serviceman or woman on active service from either World War I or II, and to demonstrate how that person embodied the ANZAC Spirit. It is an expectation of the competition that participants study a lesser-known individual from one of these conflicts, i.e. a person whose experiences have not been a focus of significant publication in the past.

Amee spent months researching the life and military service of her subject. Once her research was complete, she had to summarise her findings in a 1500-word essay, showing evidence of engagement with historical sources. In addition, Amee had to write a

500-word reflection explaining her research process, followed by a 500-word statement about herself detailing community involvement and historical interests.

Amee based her entry on the life and service of her great-grandfather, Corporal Robert Lovell, who served in the 2nd/1st Australian Machine Gun Battalion, A.I.F, during World War II.

He saw action in Syria, Palestine, New Guinea and Borneo.

Amee submitted her entry in September and will attend a ceremony in November where she will be formally recognised for her achievement. She will also attend a 12-day study tour to Vietnam in April 2025 to coincide with ANZAC Day.

The College congratulates Amee on her award. In coming months, we look forward to hearing more about the preparations she will be making prior to undertaking the study tour.

As a school, we have been fortunate to have enjoyed success in this competition when we began entering students in 2019, achieving winners every year. To have another winner named for a sixth year in a row is indeed a great honour.

We are proud of Amee and her wonderful achievement.

Australian Olympic Change Maker:

Crystal Manning

We're thrilled to announce Crystal Manning (Year 12) has recently been selected as a winner by the Australian Olympic Changemaker Award for her inspiring community efforts.

Thanks to her outstanding video submission on her contribution and leadership in Women’s inline hockey, Crystal is one of approximately twenty-five students from across Australia chosen to go on an all-expense paid, four-day trip to Canberra.

The Australian Olympic Change Maker program celebrates young Australians who ‘Power the Change’. This is a fantastic opportunity to recognise students for their incredible work in creating positive social impact.

Congratulations Crystal!

What an honour.

National BMX Success:

Imogen Healy

Recently, Imogen Healy (Year 12) ventured to Perth to compete in the AusCycling BMX National Cup, the premier event on the Australian BMX Calendar.

Imogen qualified to compete in the National Cup following multiple top placings throughout the year.

In her first race in the National Cup Super Class Women, Imogen placed second; and followed it up by obtaining third place in the Junior Elite Race. In her third race of the AusCycling BMX National Cup, Imogen came 8th overall. Although not entirely happy with this result, it's worth noting that Imogen was racing against the current world champion and other competitors who train full-time to compete at this elite level of BMX.

Imogen is currently the state champion of Super Class Women in South Australia. Congratulations Imogen, we have no doubt your success in BMX will continue following the completion of your secondary schooling.

We're all very excited to see where it takes you!
