Vision for Learners
Year 10 and 11 Examinations End of Semester 2
As the end of the academic year moves steadily closer, Year 10 and 11 students are starting their preparations for their examinations which are scheduled for Week 7 (26 - 29 November). The Monday of this week will be a study day, with examinations starting on the Tuesday.
This is an opportunity for those subjects with examinations at Stage 2 to allow students to practice sitting examinations.
Students are encouraged to take a balanced view of examinations and see them as learning opportunities. They are one form of assessment that require a distinct set of skills.
Students are encouraged to start revision as soon as possible. One skill relied upon in examinations is recall of both information and processes. Other skills needed to be practised for examinations are time management, planning, problem solving and focusing of attention. All are valuable skills outside of examinations as well. It is also helpful if students have a dedicated space at home where they can study quietly.
Many of the examinations at Stage 2 are now electronic. Students in Year 10 and Year 11 will also sit electronic examinations where relevant. Where an exam is an electronic examination, students need to bring their laptop, charger (named) and wired head/earphones.
May all Year 10 and 11 students aim to do their very best in the upcoming examinations.
Doing your best is nothing to do with luck and all about the preparation - an elite basketball player does not turn up to a game without having first done the training and preparation. Plan your study, stick to your plans, complete revision booklets and guides and ask for support from others when you need it. Plan your way to success!
The examination timetable is attached below and is registered in the TASS school calendar.
Years 9-11 - Preparing for 2025
As we move into thinking about 2025, the focus of students also moves to the subjects they have chosen. Families will soon be receiving the booklists, and a range of information for 2025. In a few cases students may have changed their career paths or subject trajectories. Should a student from Years 9 -11 wish to request a change to their previous form, this needs to be requested by filling in a Request to Change Subjects Form.
These can be collected from and returned to Student Services.
One reason for requesting a change is sometimes when a student is not meeting the grade or attitude requirements as outlined in the Senior Years Curriculum Guide.
Each subject in Years 10-12 has a specific grade and attitude level that needs to be met for automatic entry into the subject in the subsequent year. Should a student not be meeting this benchmark then they will, in most cases, need to choose an alternative subject or level within a subject.
As we start to complete our final assessments for the semester, it is worthwhile having a look at the requirements for any elective subjects to ensure they are being met. As a general rule, entry into the next year of a subject requires at least a passing academic grade and satisfactory attitude notation. The Senior Years Curriculum Guide can be found here.
It is also important to note that regardless of the reason for requesting a change, entry into the requested subject is contingent on spaces in the class and having met the requirements for entry.
Should your child wish to speak further with their Course Counsellor please feel free to contact them or myself at the College.
