Year 4 Camp Coonawarra

The Year 4 students have just returned from an incredible three-day adventure at Camp Coonawarra, where they basked in glorious sunshine. Although the bus ride was quite lengthy, we made the journey enjoyable with a refreshing stop in Traralgon and watching some entertaining movies along the way.

Camp Coonawarra offers an array of exhilarating and inspiring activities, including the giant swing, high and low ropes courses, a flying fox soaring over the crystal-clear lake, canoeing, orienteering, archery and even damper making. Each student bravely confronted their fears, embracing the spirit of adventure and creating unforgettable memories.

Below, you’ll find some of their reflections and snapshots capturing the excitement of their time at camp!

At camp we did so many amazing activities, but only two of them were my favourite! The flying fox and the GIANT swing. The flying fox looked scary at first because it was across the whole lake, but then when I went on it wasn’t scary. The giant swing was even more terrifying. All the kids pull you up and when you pull the cord and drop down your heart completely drops!! Overall Camp Coonawarra was really fun.

It was a blast on the Giant Swing at Camp Coonawarra. My eyes narrowed to the ground as I ascended to the top, I wasn’t afraid to go to the MAX level. In fact, with the encouragement of the rest of my group I was more than happy to go to the top!! Finally, after a few painful minutes I was ready for the count down. 5, 4, 3, 2, 1!! It was the moment I’d been waiting for. I pulled the rope as hard as I could and I went flying in the warm soft breeze, I couldn’t have been more thrilled! As I was swinging in the air I completely forgot about my fear of heights. I really enjoyed being engulfed in the air at the great height!!

ZIP…..is the sound of the activity I am talking about. You guessed right!! It is the flying fox! At first, you might think you will fall down, but when you do it, it turns into the opposite. It makes me want to go to camp. Camp Coonawarra’s flying fox was extra special, because you go over the top of the lake like you're walking on water. Sometimes it is like you are flying. You can think that you are a SUPERHERO with POWERS!!

My camp experiences this year were extraordinary. My highlight was the giant swing. It really got me out of my comfort zone. The wind in my face made me feel so alive and carefree. I liked it because it got me to try new things. When you go up to the top of the flying fox, you get a marvellous view of the crystal clear lake and tall green trees. I highly recommend going to Camp Coonawarra, there are so many creative and astonishing activities.

I learnt many new things at Camp Coonawarra. We were able to work together in many different activities cheering each other on in high ropes, canoeing, giant swing and many more. The food was okay, and I liked how we got to participate in duty groups and helped to pack up and get ready. We all tried each activity and we had lots of fun! During free time at camp, I tried Gaga Ball. Gaga Ball is played in a Gaga ‘pit’. Gaga Ball is a game where you combine jumping, dodging, striking and running. Players hit the ball with their hands and are eliminated if the ball hits them below the knee. There was also basketball, volleyball, ping pong and many more. Overall, going to Camp Coonawarra was a super experience!

On the first day at Camp Coonawarra, we ate lunch then did archery but nobody got a bullseye. Then, we ate dinner and had a good night's sleep. The next day we did some activities but flying fox was the best. At night we watched a movie called Jimmy Neutron. On the last day we cooked some damper. Afterwards, we got on the bus and came back.

Overall, I really enjoyed going to camp Coonawarra and doing lots of activities.

On Monday 28th October we went on the bus for a three-hour drive to Camp Coonawarra. In the middle of the bus drive, we stopped at a playground and had some snacks. When we arrived, we took our suitcase then the staff told us about the rules. After the rules we ate lunch. Our first activity was the flying fox. The flying fox was really fun, later we went to our cabin and set our cabin for the night. On the second day we did canoeing, high ropes, archery and orienteering. My favourite is high ropes because I conquered my fear of heights, and it was challenging. At night we watched a movie. On the last day, it was time to drive back to school. Overall, it was a tiring but fun camp!

On the way there we stopped halfway to eat a snack and play on the playground in Traralgon. I enjoyed the activities. There were ones during the day like canoeing, flying fox, giant swing and orienteering. During the first night we went to try bush dancing. It was really fun and in fact it was mostly Irish and Russian. After bush dancing on the same night, we went to do a trivia of general knowledge. My group came second tied with three other groups. We went to bed at 10:00 pm both nights. The second night we watched Jimmy Neutron. We also had free time every now and then. On the last day we made damper over the open fire. It was really yummy, and we had lots of fun (and jam).

The bus trips were really long and we were all tired when we back to school.🥱
