Principal's Report
Dear Parents and Carers,
We are fortunate to have extremely high calibre student role models who continually model, direct, assist and encourage younger students in the school to conduct themselves in a way that reflects the ‘BEPS way’. In addition, we have student leaders who have official roles and responsibilities that continually support fellow students, teachers and parents with the work they do. As our current Year 6 cohort look towards Graduation and end of year celebrations, they also leave a blueprint for next year’s leaders. We wish our Year 5s well as they soon consider their leadership aspirations for 2025 in the coming weeks.
Friday 25th October was World Teachers Day where we celebrated our wonderful teachers for their skilled work in educating, inspiring and supporting our BEPS students.
Our happy Year 4 campers attended Coonawarra Farm Resort from Monday to Wednesday this week, and enjoyed the great outdoors full of fun, challenge and adventure. Thank you to all students for your enthusiasm and respectful behaviour. The care and support you show each other was evident. Thank you to our parent volunteers and staff that made the experience possible.
Celebration Day 2024 will bring the community together on Monday the 16th of December, providing an opportunity to connect, sing, dance and celebrate.
It is that time of year where we are planning for 2025 and it is important that we know what your intentions are for next year. We don’t want anyone to leave Burwood East PS but we also understand that families' circumstances change and that a move to a new school may be unavoidable. If you do intend on moving to another school for any reason and will not be returning to BEPS in 2025, please inform the office as soon as possible. Thank you for your assistance as this will help us greatly as we plan for next year.
We are pleased to report that the Premier’s Reading Challenge for 2024 was a great success with 423 students completing it. In total, they read a staggering amount of 18,330 books, so their reading fluency and accuracy was given a big boost. Well done to those who took on this challenge, that’s a great outcome. Thanks to Mitch who coordinated the PRC on behalf of BEPS.
We continue to invest high-quality learning resources to allow our students to be able to access creative programs. Robotics continue to thrive at BEPS with the purchasing of new infrared electronic balls and Lego Spike kits. This hardware supports robotics, micro:bits and 3D printing clubs at lunchtime.
This is quite the investment but well worth it when you see what our students learn and produce using this technology.
School Drop Off and Pick Up
We continue to ask all families to be respectful of our neighbours and the wider community when parking or dropping off/picking up at our 'Kiss and Go' zones (Highbury Road) and in side streets around the school.
An area of concern is the number of families still stopping in the bus zone or making u-turns in front of the school on both Blackburn and Highbury Roads. To assist in keeping our community safe, please familiarise yourself with our two drop off zones. The ‘Drop Off Zone’ on Blackburn Road allows parents to pull up next to the hall and drop off their child/ren. The other zone is in front of the school on Highbury Road, ‘Kiss and Go’, which requires parents to stay within 2 metres of their car.
Please let’s work together to ensure our school community is safe. This week is ‘Walk to School Week’, so why not leave home a little earlier, park a safe distance away from the school and enjoy a short stroll to school with your children?
Hello students and BEPS community, today we the SVAT captains (Nisha and Kavya), will be talking to you about the vibrant festival of Diwali! Diwali is the celebration of light and victory. It is celebrated over the course of multiple days in which we perform various prayers of worship. It is mainly celebrated by people within the Hindu religion, and it is a time for families to connect and join together as one to celebrate the illuminating festival of Diwali. During this time families make delicious traditional treats, light sparklers and enjoy family bonding. One of our favourite traditions is to light many different types of sparklers on every night during Diwali and watch in awe as the colourful sparks illuminate the night sky.
Our favourite part of part of Diwali is lighting sparklers and mini fireworks because we love staring at the beautiful bursts of colour and light. Even if the night is cold and windy, our families still go out to watch the sparklers and the love between us and our families keeps us warm. – Nisha and Kavya
Yours in Partnership,
Darren.
