CURRICULUM FOCUS
We are learning to analyse the structure of a persuasive text.
VOCABULARY
Persuasive Text: A persuasive text is a piece of writing that aims to convince the reader to agree with the author’s opinion, believe in an idea, or take a specific action. It uses logical arguments, emotional appeals, and facts or examples to persuade the reader. Persuasive texts often have clear points, strong reasons, and sometimes counter-arguments to show why the writer's view is the best choice.
ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING
Find a short persuasive text. It could be a paragraph from an advertisement, a short article, or a persuasive letter.
Read through the text carefully and help your child to identify the structure by labelling the following parts:
- Introduction: How does the author introduce their main idea or opinion? Write down what you think the author is trying to persuade you to believe or do.
- Arguments: Look for 2-3 arguments the author uses to support their point of view. List these arguments and explain how each one supports the author’s opinion.
- Conclusion: Find the part where the author wraps up their message or calls for action. What is the final point they want you to remember?
