Level 2: Connect

Literacy

For the remainder of the term, we will be exploring the picture book Fire by Jackie French and Bruce Whatley. This story will help students learn how authors use special language to make writing more powerful, like giving fire human qualities and repeating words for effect. Students will also be writing their own descriptions of natural forces, such as storms or wind. The book will help us think about how fire can affect people, animals, and the environment, and how it can be both dangerous and a part of nature’s cycle of regrowth. Most importantly, students are learning about kindness, empathy, and how communities come together to help and stay strong after a fire.
