Hello Level 1 Families
Well here we are at the end of week 6 already!
The past fortnight has seen us all survive swimming, dance practice and book week! What a joyous time it has been!
Term 3 Reminders:
Our classroom doors open at 8:50am everyday. This is to allow for students to enter the classroom, put their drink bottle and diary away, and then complete a 'soft start' at their desk.
We kindly remind parents to say goodbye to their children at the classroom door
1B and 1C change their take home readers every FRIDAY and 1A will change theirs over each WEDNESDAY. Please remember to pack take home books on your allocated day.
Every Monday we have a Dance Incursion for 40 minutes. The first few weeks have been fantastic and students have already learnt a whole dance routine in readiness for our whole school concert to take place at the end of term.
Friday is still our library day, so please remember to bring library books back each Friday so that students can borrow a new book or two.
This week we have been exploring some books that were short listed for book of the year. We have read a beautiful book called 'We live in a bus' where we got to explore onomatopoeia- where the formation of a word comes from a sound associated with what is named- such as crash, ding dong, rib-bit. We also read 'One Dung Beetle' and got to go outside and explore what we see in nature, before creating our own class counting book. Then we got to read 'These long-loved things', which was about a little girl helping her Grandma remember special memories.
Heart words: This coming fortnight we will be focusing on the words any, many, knew, through, does and because and writing these words into sentences.
This week we focussed on the words below:
Phonemes: Next week will be learning about the 'oe' phoneme- as in tiptoe and doe.
Morphology: We will continue learning all about syllables.
We have been looking at open and closed syllables, vowel-consonant-vowel syllables as in beehive and sunshine and next week we will begin learning all about vowel team syllables.
Now we are moving onto Consonant le syllables as in castle and puzzle.
Over the past two weeks, our Grade 1 students have been developing their skills in reading analogue clocks, focusing on telling time to the hour and half past the hour. This foundational skill helps students better understand the concept of time in their daily lives.
Level 1 students have also been working on solving subtraction number stories using a variety of strategies. Students have been practising “counting on” as well as using number lines to find the difference in subtraction problems. These approaches support their understanding of subtraction as a relationship between numbers and help build strong problem-solving skills.
We have continued exploring the 7 continents. We discovered many different facts about Asia- looking at cherry blossoms, the lake city, pandas and China being the biggest exporter of watermelon! We have moved onto Europe, which has been fascinating! Learning about the different countries that are in Europe, what is unique about them and where they are located on a map.
Level 1 Term 3 Specialist Timetable
Please note there are slight changes to the time table whilst we are attending swimming.
