Shoutout to the students & their families who are engaging in meaningful discussions to support respectful relationships in our school community.
Thank you to the wonderful students in our cohort who demonstrate agency over learning, kindness and respect towards others. You are awesome!!
LITERACY
This fortnight we have continued to hone our persuasive writing skills. Students have discussed and planned arguments on topics they are passionate about. We have encouraged students to channel their emotions towards their argument, carefully mapping out 3 clear reasons for or against their topic. From here, students selected their most powerful topic and built a repertoire of evidence to support their claims, before drafting a speech to a carefully considered audience.
The speeches will be shared with their classes between now and next week. We are excited to hear the persuasive techniques that have been synthesised into the speeches.
In Reading, students have continued to experiment with the different reading roles using a variety of short stories. They are beginning to develop greater collective efficacy, seeing how vital each individual response is to the overall success of the Literature Circle.
MATHS
Students have been examining the function of place values when converting units of measure. They have used Gattegno charts to support this learning, showing they understand what happens when we multiply a number by powers of 10 or 100.
Then, students applied this concept to show understanding, using a place value chart:
😂 Why did the digit 0 sit next to the number 9? Because it wanted to feel ten times bigger!
Respectful Relationships
As communicated in our email last week, the students have commenced our program about respectful relationships. Discussions at home this week should be about:
Session 3: Stereotypes on Trial
1. What did I learn in this session?
2. Did anything surprise me or make me think differently?
3. How might I use this learning in real life?
4. What would I like help with or learn more about?
5. Is there anything I would like my teacher to know about how I felt during this session?
Session 4: Spot the Pressure
1. What did I learn in this session?
2. Did anything surprise me or make me think differently?
3. How might I use this learning in real life?
4. What would I like help with or learn more about?
5. Is there anything I would like my teacher to know about how I felt during this session?
KINECT 2 DANCE
Indi & Bree from K2D have been putting the Sixers through their paces in preparation for our upcoming production 'A Night at the Museum'. Next term, the Sixers will receive dance lessons to prepare a dance for their Graduation Ceremony.
COMMUNITIES - GRADE 6 ARE ALL LEADERS
The Sixers have been leading our Communities sessions for their Houses, coordinating paper games, construction competitions, relays, and ball games. We are impressed by the way they have risen to this challenge. These vertical House groups support friendships and teamwork across year levels which enhances our Schoolwide Positive Behaviour Support progam.
IMPORTANT DATES
Wishing you all an enjoyable fortnight,
The Grade 6 Team
