Homework
Term 3, 2025 - Level 3
Weeks 5 and 6 of Term 3, 2025 saw the Level 3 students settle back into the routine of fun learning and socialisation. The students are working hard on their ERPs and looking forward to presenting them at their Expo in Week 9.
The dance lessons are being held each Monday morning and the children are now learning two dances! These dances will be performed at the SEPS school performance in Week 9 of Term 3. As the weeks progress, it will be important for the children to practise these dance routines so we (L3 teachers) have recorded the dance teacher performing both dances.

Literacy
In Literacy we have commenced learning about the Latin Etymology of words and numbers. The latest word that we are learning is the Latin word 'struct' which means build or move. We explored how this word forms other words by adding a connecting vowel and suffixes. For example, de + struct = destruct and struct + ure = structure and con + struct = construct. There are many other words which we formed using 'struct' as the base word and adding various suffixes.
The students have just started to learn about the Greek words Di (two/ split into two); Tri (three); Penta (five), Oct (eight), Deca (ten). Many different words are formed from these base words and some examples are octopus, octagon, decade, division, dilemma, triangle, pentagon.
We are also writing our own Information Reports and spending a considerable amount of time exploring the specific language being used in Information texts. In the coming weeks, the students will be completing their own Information Report on a Celebration or Festival using specific factual language, headings, paragraphs and drawings.
During the reading component of Literacy, the students are reading different weekly celebrations about topics such as Diwali, St Patrick's Day, Eid Al-Adha, Ramadan, Moon Festival, Hanukkah, 14th July, Midsummer, Halloween, Chinese New Year and other celebrations.
We have been practising our patterned writing in preparation for the Information Report. We watched a video of the Southern Aurora and then made lists of nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs. From there, each student wrote their own sentence describing the Southern Aurora. This particular process is challenging for each student but they wrote excellent sentences.
Maths
In Maths, the students have commenced learning about vertical addition with and without regrouping/ renaming. The most important aspect of renaming/ regrouping is that the students understand the Place Value of the numbers in each place value column as this helps consolidate their mathematical thinking.
Inquiry
In Inquiry, the Level 3 students are learning about Celebrations and how different cultures and countries celebrate important events. People recognise important events through celebrations, commemorations and traditions around the world, including whole world celebrations like the Olympics. Students will explore a celebration by researching the history of the event, the country of origin, its importance as a celebration or commemoration, and the cultural characteristics that make it unique to that country or culture.
Students have now commenced their ERP hence have chosen their individual Celebration.
There will be an Expo for all Level 3 students in Week 9 of Term 3 which will celebrate the students’ learning of important events. They will all be creating an A3 poster, present a booklet as well as building/ creating/ drawing the actual celebration. Students will also have the opportunity to wear different cultural clothes of significance associated with their chosen celebration.
GEM Chat - In the classroom, we have been discussing how to consider others and how people might feel when others consider and help them.
