Careers Corner

Mrs Rachel Galvin

Congratulations to our wonderful year 12 students on the successful completion of the Trial Examinations! As our seniors move another step closer to the completion of their secondary schooling, they may be taking steps towards their post school pathways. On Monday the 1st of September, students who applied for the University of New England Early Entry Scheme may receive offers of enrolment for 2026. If your child receives an offer and has questions about the next steps, they are welcome to attend the UNE drop in session on Tuesday the 2nd of September, at lunch in the library. Representatives from the UNE admissions team will be on hand to chat and answer questions. If your child is considering making a round 2 application, they are also welcome to come along.

Updates from the University Admissions Centre

Details of all semester 1, 2026 courses offered by UAC’s participating institutions are now available, so it's a perfect time to log in and change your preferences if you need to. Remember, if you apply by 30 September, you’ll avoid a significant increase in the application fee.

Once you've submitted your UAC application you can:

  • - change your course preferences as many times as you like for free, so don't worry if you’re not 100% sure what you want to study next year
  • - apply for an early offer through the Schools Recommendation Scheme if you're in Year 12 this year (applications close 5 September)
  • - take account of any educational challenges through the Educational Access Scheme
  • - apply for an Equity Scholarship if you're experiencing significant financial challenges.

If you’ve already applied, log in to your application, browse the full list of courses, review your existing course preferences and update them as you please.

YEAR 10

Students have now made their subject selections for year 11 2026. Students and parents who elected TAFE on their selection form will have received email communication from me regarding the next steps. Please get in contact with me if you think your child is intending to enrol at TAFE and has not spoken with me.

VET

Term 3 is a busy term in the Vocational Education and Training space, with year 11 students across our in-school VET subjects completing their 35 hour work placements. Work placement is a mandatory requirement for VET subjects and a valuable opportunity to make links between classroom learning and on the job training. I must acknowledge the hard work of our VET teachers who play a major role in organising and facilitating these important placements;

  • Mrs Healey - Hospitality
  • Miss Phillips - Primary Industries
  • Mrs Smith - Fitness
  • Mr Healy - Construction

Thank you for all you do to ensure that high quality vocational training continues to be delivered at O’Connor!
