As we move through Term 3, I am continually reminded of the joy and privilege of working in a community where learning and faith are at the heart of all we do. Our classrooms are places of curiosity, growth, and challenge, and it is inspiring to see both staff and students engaging deeply in their learning.
This term, we have focused on strengthening clarity in our learning and teaching here at O’Connor. Teachers across the College have been working to ensure that every lesson makes clear: What are we learning? Why are we learning it? How will we know we’ve been successful? This shared language of learning helps students take greater ownership of their progress and see the connection between effort and achievement.
A highlight has been seeing students actively engage with feedback - asking questions, setting goals, and striving to apply what they learn in new contexts. These habits of reflection and resilience are key not only to academic success, but also to the way our young people grow into capable, compassionate adults.
For our Year 12 students, this term has brought the completion of their Trial HSC Examinations. These exams are an important milestone, giving students a clear picture of their strengths as well as the areas that require focused revision. As they move towards the end of Term 3, our Year 12s are encouraged to make the most of feedback, refine their study habits, and enter the final weeks of preparation with confidence and determination. The support of teachers, peers, and families at this stage is invaluable in helping them finish strongly.
In our Catholic tradition, education is about more than knowledge; it is about forming the whole person. The Gospel call to love, serve, and act with justice underpins all our work. As Pope Francis reminded us, “Education is an act of hope,” one that looks forward to the future with courage. Each classroom and each lesson is a chance to inspire hope and nurture potential.
As we head into the final part of the term, I encourage our students to continue to challenge themselves, to seek feedback, and to remember that learning is a journey best walked with persistence and openness. Thank you to families and staff for the constant support you give our young people in that journey.
