Dear Parents, Caregivers, Staff, Students, and Friends,
In this week’s newsletter, I’ll cover important information focused on Exams, Assessments and Elective Subjects.
Our Year 12s have just finished their last school Assessment tasks - The Trial Exams
Our Year 12 students are in a crucial period as we finalise the school assessment marks and ranks for submission to NESA in Week 9 of this term. Remember, the HSC mark is a blend of 50% school assessment and 50% HSC exam performance. It’s vital to understand that NESA moderates the raw school assessment marks based on the HSC exam results. Essentially, the highest and lowest school assessment marks are adjusted to align with the highest and lowest HSC exam marks, while maintaining the relative ranks and gaps.
Key Takeaway for Year 12: The final assessment marks will be influenced by your HSC exam performance. There’s still time to make a significant impact—keep up the hard work and aim for the best possible HSC marks.

Year 11 Exams: Preparing for Week 9
Year 11 students are gearing up for their exams scheduled for Week 9. With just two weeks left, these exams will assess the knowledge and skills acquired throughout the year. You can view the timetable here. Year 11 Exam Timetable.
Year 11 and 12: Use the Exams for planning next steps
The smartest thing to do after getting your exams back is to work smarter, not harder. Analyse your exams to work out what areas you need to improve in, and write them down. These may be topic areas, skills or types of questions. As a part of this, make sure you take on the feedback from your teachers. You spent three hours (most Yr 12 Trials) or two hours (Year 11 exams) doing each exam, and your teacher spends nearly as long marking it! Spend some quality time working out what you did well (celebrating this) and what you need to do better next time.
As I mentioned in the last newsletter, we are currently in the midst of Subject Selection Season:
Year 11 2026: Current Year 10 students have submitted their preferences via the Edval Choices form. We are nearly finished finalising the course lines and will discuss any remaining subject concerns. Year 10 will receive the finalised lines next week (Week 7).
Year 10 2026: Students in Year 9 are considering their elective preferences for Year 10 2026. The form will be sent next week (Monday, Week 7) with the preferences due Monday, Week 8.
Year 9 2026: It’s nearly Year 8’s turn to start the subject selection process. Year 8 students, I will be meeting with you on Monday, Week 9, to explain the subject selection process in detail and release our Year 9 2026 Google Site. Your choices will be due by the last day of Term 3.
Thank you all for your continued support of our wonderful college.
Yours sincerely,
Mr Stephen Chapman
