Jesus tells the story in Matthew 13:31–32, Mark 4:30–32, and Luke 13:18–19 of the Parable of the Mustard Seed. Jesus often used stories, parables to teach people about morals and ways in which we can deepen our relationship with God. In these Books, Jesus compares the Kingdom of Heaven to a mustard seed—a tiny seed that, when planted, grows into a large tree where birds can nest in its branches. Though the mustard seed is one of the smallest seeds, its growth is astonishing and expansive.
Kindergarten students have been learning about this Parable and even as adults it can have significant meaning in our lives. This parable reminds us of the importance of small beginnings that can have a great impact. Just like faith or a good deep, though it is small, it can grow into something great. A simple ‘hello’ or acknowledgement may seem small to you but may have a huge impact on another person. It also teaches us about the importance of inclusivity. In this parable, it is the tree that shelters birds, offering them safety and rest. This reminds us that we too can find rest and safety in God.
In today’s connected world, our children are growing up with technology at their fingertips. While the internet offers incredible opportunities for learning and creativity, it also presents challenges that require thoughtful guidance. As part of our commitment to student wellbeing, Sydney Catholic Schools are holding a range of seminars on AI and Working Together to Keep Our Families Safe in a Digital World.
Even if your children are in their younger years, we strongly recommend these for your own knowledge and so that when the time comes, you will be completely prepared. Please see links and details below.
