Middles Learning Itinerary

2025 CYCLE 3 Middle’s LEARNING ITINERARY

The School Wide Key Understanding we are exploring this term is;

Sharing stories helps us learn and connect to ourselves, people and places.

Our first Big Idea linked to this understanding is;

Australia is made up of a diverse community.

We expect this portion of our Inquiry to go for approximately three weeks.

We have broken down this Big Idea into four key stages. These stages are;

  1. Over time our community has  changed.
  2. People contribute their diverse stories to a community.
  3. These contributions enhance the richness of a community

To enhance this portion of our Inquiry, In English we will explore these texts;

Words and Nerds - Podcast (Littlescribe)

The Little Refugee  - Anh Do

Junior Journalist - How to write a news story

The English concepts that we will explore through these texts are;

  1. Questioning
  2. Storytellers Voice
  3. Purpose

The Maths concepts that we will explore through this Big Idea are;

  1. Fractions
  2. Length

At the start of this Inquiry Cycle, to spark students’ curiosity about history and local stories, we will be taking an excursion to Sydney Road. Students will choose a location to research, exploring its history and the stories connected to it. Further details about this event will be available on Sentral.

Towards the end of this Inquiry, we will communicate with families about our next Big Idea. As we encourage students to be agents of their own learning, we remain flexible on pacing, which means our Inquiry may move faster than originally planned or require more time with one or more concepts.

If you have any questions about this Inquiry, or you have any skills, resources, experiences or talents that may help us as we explore the concepts, please contact your classroom teacher.

With kindness,

Middles Team
