Grade 3-6:

Grade 3/4A – Week 7 & 8 Update

Reading:

In the 3/4 Classroom, we've just finished reading a great story about compassion from author Maggie Hutchins called 'I Saw Pete and Pete Saw Me'. The students enjoyed uncovering the messages in the story and completing a range of activities around it. We're about to start reading 'The Gizmo Again' by Australian author Paul Jennings, which some students remember reading the original 'Gizmo' book last year.

Writing:

In the 3/4 Classroom, we've written a range of styles, including narratives about 'when our teacher went on holiday' and a letter related to our mentor text "I Saw Pete and Pete Saw Me'. The students also went outside and wrote positive messages in chalk on the concrete outside, which related to our book.

Maths:

In the 3/4 Classroom, we've been working on chance, including how to label everyday events as likely, unlikely, certain or impossible. We also continue to work on learning our timetables.

Grade 4/5A – Week 8 Update

Reading:

The Grade 4/5A students have finished reading 'The Wild Robot' by Peter Brown. The story has sparked many class discussions about survival, friendship and the natural world. The students have thoroughly enjoyed following Roz’s journey and are eagerly anticipating how the story concludes.

Writing:

In Writing, students have just completed a factual recount assessment on the 2009 Black Saturday Bushfires. This task allowed students to apply their research and comprehension skills to write clear and informative recounts using factual details. It was an important opportunity to reflect on a significant event in Australian history while strengthening their writing structure and accuracy.

Mathematics:

In Maths, the class has been learning about the topic of Chance. Students have been experimenting with probability through games, hands-on tasks and real-life examples. They have enjoyed predicting and recording outcomes, and using words like “likely,” “unlikely” and “certain” to describe the chance of different events.
