Aspirations Day

On the 5th of August, four students attended the Aspirations Day at St Albans Community Centre.
The theme of the day was ‘Igniting Ambitions - A day of empowering young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students’. Students were presented with a range of activities that challenged them creatively, encouraged them to problem solve and made them think critically about the future pathways.
They were engaged in a variety of workshops facilitated by RMIT and Monash University, from robotics and engineering to healthcare and construction. This allowed students with valuable exposure to potential career opportunities in the future, while providing them with the opportunity to work with local First Nations communities.

It was a very good day. My favourite activity was probably the hands-on health, where we made fake injuries. I met new people and had to work as a team to solve problems.

The day was quite enjoyable, it felt like the classes were relaxing and provided me with an opportunity to learn and do activities. At the start, it was hard because I didn’t know anyone, but by the end, I’d made lots of friends. Everyone there was so friendly, it felt like a family. I would recommend it to all First Nations students!

It was pretty fun! I really enjoyed all of it. It was a good way to get out of the classroom and do real world things. It was a good way to paint a picture of our future and explore some options around what we might like to do in the future.
My favourite was the hands-on health workshop, where I got to use special effects makeup to make an injury on my body! I also had lots of fun with the experiments.

Today got me out of my comfort zone and made me work with new people. My favourite activity was making a wound on my hand using special effects. I would definitely go again and would encourage my friends to participate.
