A day in the life at Torrens University

On Wednesday 13.08.25 a group of Year 11 Vocational Major students met at Watergardens station to attend “A day in the life at Torrens University”
On arriving at the University, students were welcomed, and then made their way to the Marriott Hotel on the corner of Exhibition and Lonsdale streets in the city, where they were welcomed warmly by the staff at the Hotel.
Splitting into 2 groups the students were taken on a tour of the hotel with a detailed explanation of the various parts of the hotel and jobs that were available in each area.
Meeting back at the ground floor area the students were offered morning tea and spoken to by various members of the Marriott hotel staff and what their roles were and how they commenced in the hotel industry. Students were lucky to meet the General Manager of the organisation who indicated the varying employment chances within the Hotel industry and the chance to combine travel/work within the industry.
We then headed off to lunch and made our way back to Torrens University where we were taken on a tour of their facilities and onsite training rooms. Our host Nicloe Giardossi explained to students that Torrens is a private University, however entry can be gained through a course when year 12 is complete. She also explained the other avenues of entry if not completing year 12.
We were thrilled to have this chance to look at a University and a tour of a city Hotel and its facilities. A big thank you to Nicole and Torrens. TLSC was the first to attend such a day.
Well done to our group of students who conducted themselves in a very mature manner throughout the day, and a big thank you to Mr. Williams for accompanying us on the day.
