Year 3/4 Science
This term in Science, our Year 3/4 classes have been exploring the topic of Natural Resources. Our lessons have included studying different types of rocks, their formation processes, and examining various minerals. Students have also had the opportunity to identify and learn about different types of gemstones.
In Week 4, we began focusing on soils. Students learned that soil originates from rocks and that its formation is a lengthy process. We discussed the concept of weathering and how different types of rocks produce different kinds of soil.
During our practical activities, students examined samples of sand, silt, clay and loam. They learned about the composition of soil - specifically, rock, water, air, and organic matter. Students observed each sample’s colour, texture, moisture level, presence of rocks, and organic material. They then considered which soil sample would be most suitable for growing plants, recognising that healthy, nutrient-rich soil with organic matter that retains adequate water is ideal for plant growth.
By the end of the lesson, students were able to identify the components of soil, describe its origins, and explain how living organisms depend on healthy soil for survival.
We look forward to visiting the museum to end our term's study.

Year 6 Camp to Kangaroo Island
We were fortunate to enjoy smooth ferry rides both to, and from Kangaroo Island, setting the tone for a wonderful week away. The students had an unforgettable time exploring some of the island's most iconic attractions.
Our adventure began with a visit to Kangaroo Island Honey, where students learned about the fascinating world of beekeeping and honey production. From there, we took in the breathtaking views of the Remarkable Rocks and Admirals Arch, where nature’s beauty was on full display. A highlight for many was our visit to Seal Bay, where we got up close to a colony of Australian sea lions in their natural habitat.
One of the most exciting parts of the trip was sandboarding down the towering sand dunes—an activity that definitely wore everyone out! On our boat cruise, we were lucky enough to spot dolphins, sea lions, and seals.
There was plenty of time for fun and relaxation too. The students enjoyed playing in the water, running along the beach, and climbing through rock tunnels to reach the stunning Stokes Bay Beach.
Overall, it was an amazing week of adventure, discovery, and fun. We are incredibly proud of the students for their enthusiasm, resilience, and fantastic behaviour throughout the trip. It was a week to remember!
