Year 5/6 News

Literacy
Students have started to work on planning and drafting their Lions Club Speeches.
The 2025 topic is: The impact of fast-moving technology on our lives and the environment is often overlooked, yet it can be far reaching. Is technology moving too fast for humans to keep up? Discuss.
Students will have time in class to complete their speech, do any research required and learn about the 5P's of public speaking. Students will present their speech to teachers and peers on June 12th (more information will be sent out closer to the date).
Maths
Students have been working on measurement strategies, timestables fluency and problem solving skills involving the four operations.
National Reconciliation Week
The theme for this year is "Bridging Now to Next", encouraging Australians to build a more united future together by learning from the past. Our students learned about what reconciliation means and about the importance of continuing to become more aware of shared histories, cultures and achievements of First Nations people. You will notice photos and stories of how our whole school recognised National Reconciliation Week earlier in the newsletter.
Digital Technologies
Next Wednesday, Grade 5/6 students will take part in a Zoom session conducted by the Kids Helpline called 'Positive Online Footprints'.
Students will learn:
- what is an online footprint
- what are positive and negative online footprints
- the power of our choices online
- how to contribute positively to your online world
